Let me make some prediction - this 17 y.o. guy will be in top20 in 2-3 years
This year Jenya won 3 futures - 2 on claycourts and 1 on indoor hard.
Also he was in 1/4 in Freudenstadt and tomorrow will play with Sluiter in 1/4 in Kolding.
This year record is 52-25.
Now he is No. 253 in the world and No. 8 in Russia.
At each of his five career ATP-level tournaments, Korolev has won through the qualification competition to take his place in the main draw.
It was no different in Bastad this week. The 18-year-old reached his second quarterfinal and first since making his ATP circuit debut in Marseille in February.
Korolev added to victories over Nikolay Davydenko (Marseille) and Carlos Moya (Barcelona), by knocking out Peruvian Luis Horna 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 18 minutes for a place in the last eight.
Despite a first serve percentage of 54%, Korolev won 23 of 29 points. He also converted three-of-three break point opportunities.
Since the start of the year, Korolev has risen from No. 188 in the INDESIT ATP Rankings to a career-high of No. 126 three weeks ago.
Marin Cilic, 17, won the matchup of rising teenagers when he topped 18-year-old Evgeny Korolev 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3. Cilic, given a wild card with his 209th ranking, reached the Gstaad semifinals two weeks ago. Korolev, 115th, has two quarterfinals performances this season.
Evgueni pulled out of Washington, D.C. so I won't get to see him. But I'll be sure to take a lot of pictures of Igor K And maybe some of Marat for you guys if I see him
