BUENOS AIRES.- Tras los problemas físicos mostrados por Nicolás Massú en el duelo de Copa Davis ante Rusia, se dudaba que participara en uno de sus torneos favoritos: el ATP de Buenos Aires. Y en eso estuvo toda esta semana, preparándose para llegar bien. Ayer se había confirmado su inclusión en el grupo 6 del campeonato, pero hoy la propia organización dio a conocer la noticia de que el segundo mejor jugador de Chile se había borrado del torneo.

La página oficial del torneo dice que "el chileno Nicolás Massú anunció su baja del torneo por lesión (pierna izquierda). El español Albert Montañés ocupará su lugar".

De esta forma serán cinco (5) los que clasificarán al "Elimination Round" (4 ganadores de la rueda de clasificación y un Lucky Loser, el mejor rankeado de los perdedores).

Massú había sido sorteado ayer en el grupo 6 junto Agustín Calleri y un jugador venido de la qualy. Contra el argentino era su primer partido, un rival conocido para el viñamarino en las canchas argentinas. El 2002 ganó la final de este torneo al trasandino en un maratónico partido.

Massú había pedido comenzar su participación el martes para tener más tiempo en su recuperación, pero finalmente decidió retirarse.

Este torneo tiene mucha historia para el 42 del mundo, porque fue el primer trofeo que levantó en el circuito.
