I don't know much about the guys in the Slovak Republic - I'll have to look it up.

And I hope you're right Fergie, and that it is played in Chile!

VAMOS CHILE!!!!!!!
The Slovak guys are mainly hard court specialists - and beat both Spain and Argentina this year on fast surfaces on their way to the Final. They are excellent players - but if it is in Chile then they will have problems on slow clay.

It will be tough - just looked up the team - you've got Hrbaty, Beck.

Let's hope its in Chile, because if its in the Slovak Republic on hardcourts, we'll have some problems winning. Not that its not doable, but will be tough.

I just checked that Chile has the option to choose the type of court so I think that this means they will play in Chile just like Fergie said.

Here's an interview with Radio Cooperativa with Nico on the Davis Cup draw:

The second national racquet, Nicolas Massú (47º), stood out the advantage to dispute as localities the first round of the World Group of Cup Davis 2006, beyond that the rival one will be Slovakia, finalist of the edition of this year.

In dialogue with Al Air free in Cooperative in Palermo, moments before undertaking the airplane that will carry it to Metz, France, the viñamarino commented the result of the drawing performed in Paris.

"Happy that be played in Chile, was what all we wanted. What is important was not the rival one, but it was played in Chile, but there was a pair of teams that playing at home equal they were very hard like Spain", maintained.

Massú did not want to underestimate al joint headed by Dominik Hrbaty (19º), but maintained that the possibilities favor al national picture acting at home.

"Slovakia is a rival one al that him can be beat, but one must have a lot of care, by something they are in the end of the Davis Cup now. It is not going to be easy, but what is important is that we have the advantage to define where to play, in what court to play, all the options had and by having we we decide them. That it is the advantage that have and happy therefore", affirmed.

The Olympic champion assured that the key is that the match be in clay, a surface that does not accommodate the Slovaks, in a setting that there will be that to define with the captain, Hans Gildemeister, and the remainder of the team, that also integrate Fernando González (18º), Paul Capdeville (132º) and Adrián Garcia (154º).

"It more important it is to play in clay, seems that is going to be it more indicated. Now one must see in what city, that we we will decide it. I believe that Hans is the person that has to decide and he is going to ask us and I will converse it with Fernando and all the team", indicated.

Massú commented that the fact that the match be in Chile will also be beneficial for its personal planning.

"It is important also thinking about our calendar, we can play Vina, the Davis Cup, the tournaments of clay of South America, all is positive. It to have been super difficult that touched us in a country of Europe, in folder, in a fast court, having that to play the ATP of Vina. By luck left all well", argued.

Memories of Presov

In the only match among both countries, Slovakia conquered to Chile 3-2 in Presov, on hard surface and where Massú lost before Hrbaty in individual and in double next to González before that same player and Jan Kroslak.

The viñamarino indicated that the situation is different for this new confrontation, set between the 10 and February 12, 2006.

"It was does various years ago, I did not have the same one ranking that I have now, Fernando neither, the experience was neither the same one. It was played in a surface rapidísima, where less experience we have we, of visit, and the truth is that now all changes", asserted.

"As I said in the press conference when we won the double to Pakistan, there is a lot of difference among playing of localities and of visit. If you play with Australia of visit is very hard to beat them, because we are going to put you pasture; on the other hand if play in Chile put them clay and is totally different and the winner should be we", added.

Massú had also time to be referred to its career and the categorical rout that suffered Wednesday front al Italian Filipp Volandri (44º) in its premiere in the tournament of Palermo, for 6-3 and 6-0.

"One must assume the errors that one you eat you. It should not have come never to play as I arrived, descending me of the airplane. If it it to have thought better, perhaps not to have come. But the positive thing is that now I will have four days before in Metz to adapt myself to the surface", confessed.

The number two national will act the next week in said French contest, in order then to participate in the Masters Series of Madrid, Basilea and the former Super one Nine of Paris-Bercy, with what will close the season 2005. (Cooperative.cl)

Gildemeister has at first option Viña del Mar ... But he first want to talk with the boys and after decide ;)
I can't imagine that either of the boys wouldn't want Davis Cup in Vina... :)

That would be cool because they would get to be in Vina for two straight weeks - DC one week, the Vina tournament the next.

I wish I was rich so I could come down to Chile for those two weeks...I'm going to have to win the lottery!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Here's an article from latercera.cl. Fernando says he wants the tie by the ocean - but will leave the decision to the organizers. I think Nico though would prefer Vina.

"Fernando González commented this Thursday that prefers to face to Slovakia to sea level in the valid series by the first round of the World Group of Cup Davis 2006.

The first national racquet declared its intention to be measured with the European team, that comes to defeat to Argentina of localities, in the environment that turn out to be more complicated them.

"They have very good players of fast court and indoors. Carrying them al sea level, where runs a little wind, and the ball be heavier, I believe that is going to bother them a lot of", explained.

Gonzalez did not want to deliver its opinion with respect to the city where should be carried out the comparison, during the next one 10, 11 and 12 of February, and delivered the responsibility to the organizers.

"Vina or the Serene one they remain enough close. One must see who does a great stadium because we want many people in that match", maintained.

Respect al turned out of the drawing carried out this Thursday in Paris, González coincided with its companions of team.

"I remained happy because complied what more we wanted that was to play here in Chile. Slovakia is a rival very even one, but acting of localities we have the advantage", expressed.

It's hard to believe but Nico prefers to play in Santiago over Viña just because it's better for his game ;) ... The reason why they played in Santiago against Pakistan.

But thinking in the Slovaks they must pick the slowest clay here: Viña :)

That's interesting Fergie. I would always expect Nico to pick Vina over anywhere. :)

Would it be at the same place they hold the tournament the week before?

Nico and Fernando would be definitely used to the surface.

That's the idea use the same court ... But who knows La Serena wants the tie too ;)

I prefer Viña of course

Fergie o Alonso - in latercera.cl, they said that Hans is looking at Estadio Sausalito.

Is that far from Santiago? Or Vina? I know that Fernando said that it might be good to have it someplace other than Vina or La Serena, but I would rather that the guys didn't have to travel a lot.

I know its not my choice...lol!...but I hope its Vina.

I still believe that they will pick Las Salinas, but Sausalito is a nice please too ... Of course that now I prefer Sausalito!
