Fernando

"it is not impossible to beat Federer"

Fernando González speaks of his passage to semifinals in Montecarlo and of the options that he has before the world number one, the Swiss Roger Federer.

I believe that I'll have to write more often friends...
Today it was a great day again. The begining was very hard, 4-1 down with breaks points for 5-1. Later I served for the set and I broke. That gave me a very important push. Later he had a problem in his foot and the good thing was that I knew how to take the advantage. I took advantage in the beginning of the second set and I was always above in the marker, which is very important when you face players of this category.

A side story, a little sad, but luckyly it didn't get worse, was when I hit the signboard, I let the racket go and it hit a ballboy. When leaving the field, I saw him with a patch in the eye. I gave him a shirt and I invited him to see tomorrow's match with Carlos Burgos, my physical trainer.

Tomorrow's match will be very difficult, but not impossible. Playing against a number one of the world is something special. There is an extra motivation from the moment one goes to the field, because there is nobody better than him at the present time.

I can't even remember how many times I have played against number one's, but what I will never forget is when I have defeated them. Twice in a same year: one against Lleyton Hewitt in Hamburg, but the one that I enjoyed the most was against Andre Agassi. I enjoyed it for two reasons: it was in the semifinal of a match where he always played well and because simply he was Agassi. I grew seeing him on television, he is a player whom I admire much. When we shaked hands, without wanting, I said to him: "I fulfilled a dream by beating you". Very calmly, although a little angry to lose and surprised by my words, only hit upon to say: "Really?".
I hope that this Saturday something similar occurs.

See you tomorrow

Fernando
