Evans would have been in the GB team but instead of playing the Maui challenger as planed he flew home from Australia early last week in order to "train indoors". Leon Smith was extremely unhappy with this course of action and strongly advised against it.

Re: World Group 1st Round: Great Britain at USA (January 31-February 2, 2014)

Isner bt Ward (1-0 USA)
Murray bt Querrey (1-1)

Bryan/Bryan bt Murray/Fleming (2-1 USA)

Murray bt Isner (2-2)
Querrey by Ward (3-2 USA)

I think we would win this tie if Smith wouldn't swallow his pride and blade Dan Evans.

I feel like this too, stupid decision by León. Ward doesn't stand a chance against Isner or Querrey, Dan might have in my opinion. All going to come down to the doubles rubber, and for us we have to beat the greatest doubles team of all time!! (Although they are in decline since US Open)

TT Singles Rank: 7 (7) Won US Open 2014
TT Doubles Rank: 75 (75) Won Itajai Challenger 2014 (w/Dangermouse)
Most Improved Player 2014

TOMMY ROBREDO
STAN WAWRINKA
KEI NISHIKORI
GAEL MONFILS
LEO MAYER

The upcoming GOATS Jared Donaldson | Roman Safiulin | Hyeon Chung | Taylor Harry Fritz | John Mcnally

A lot of the talk suggests that Edmund will play singles anyway. Ward is in terrible form and withdrew from the Doubles in Maui with a shoulder injury.

In the circumstances I don't think Smith had much of a choice about Evans.

I don't get why we're playing on clay. John and Sam's best surface is hard court, but I feel the decision was based on Murray being good on hard. The idea is to beat the other singles player. That's what's never understood. You NEVER have to beat the top player from a country with only one strong singles player. Win the doubles and other two singles matches and you advance. With all that being said, I think the US will move on.

Well they seem beatable at the minute, can't say i have always thought that about the Bryans. Fleming and Murray will push them all the way, that's for sure.

And Edmund is an interesting one. You would think he might get overpowered by guys like Isner and Querrey, but the kid can play. Better option then Ward anyway.

Anybody's beatable, but I doubt they'll lose. They'll peak for this(as they usually do). Why wasn't Marray chosen? Never seen Edmund play, I must admit.
