Re: Week 11: Kazan, Russia [Entry List]

Olivetti comes back from a set and break down to beat Cipolla 46 64 63

The Frenchman with 20 aces and 14 DF, so typical of him

Can't say it's typical for him to get broken in all three sets in a match he actually wins, though. And with no TBs.

Won't be much of an upset. He's too good for his current ranking.

Not entirely true. I saw this match. Olivetti got broken three times. Which means Cipolla got broken five times. You don't break someone five times if the serve is your only weapon, do you?

Hence the "" emoticon in my post; Flavio should not have lost this match. Olivetti is a ballbasher, which means he can occasionally blast some return winners as well, but his serve is the only truly outstanding part of his game.

I'd say that Olivetti has improved his ground game. His volleying is pretty decent as well. I definitely wouldn't say that it was a bad loss for Cipolla, and, btw, Olivetti was around 65/35 favorite before the match.

Mertl was about 65/35 against Cipolla too. Don't know why bookies had such little belief in him, tbh.

I think that Flavio should be able to handle someone like Olivetti, unless the Frenchman has a really good day and is able to hit through Flavio's shots consistently.

For me it's a bad loss that just shows the form he is in. I was hoping that the win against Mertl (similar to Olivetti in the erratic nature of his game) was a sign of improvement, but maybe not
