Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

Looks like Somdev retired 2nd round of play in the third set - draw sheet says "right shoulder." The curse strikes again.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

Denis Istomin, who won 4 out of 5 challenger tournaments that he played so far this year, received a 2nd round exit in Helsinki against Matthias Bachinger. Must have been the curse again

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

2012, the curse is still there: Heilbronn top seed Gilles Müller, ranked #55, lost his first round match against Martin Klizan (#121) in two sets.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

And here we are again: Former World No. 17 Sam Querrey looks to continue his climb back up the South African Airways ATP Rankings with a strong showing as the third seed this week at the yp Challenger of Dallas. -> first round loss in two sets against Alex Kuznetsov (#176), who himself lost in the second round against qualifier Clément Reix...

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

Go Soeda this week - he's the No. 1 seed at Kyota and playing a Q first round. Let's see what happens.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

Gō Soeda really doesn't like being in the spotlight. He won his first round match against qualifier Purav Raja, but then lost in the 2nd round against world #271 Hiroki Moriya, totally collapsing after a close first set tie-break.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

The curse strikes again - Frank Dancevic retires after the first set in the Tallahassee final.

From the ATP Player Spotlight blurb: "World No. 118 Frank Dancevic has taken advantage of replacing top seed Yen-Hsun Lu in the main draw of the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger by surging into the final."

And then from @TallyChallenger: Finals: Tim Smyczek d. Frank Dancevic 7-5, ret. Dancevic fell to court on set point with a back injury, needed to be helped bad.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

This week the curse strikes ATP spotlight player Alejandro Falla,

From the ATP site: "Home favourite Alejandro Falla is this week a career-high World No. 54 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings and features in the Seguros Bolivar Open as the No. 2 seed. The Bogota resident is chasing his second ATP Challenger Tour title of the season after victory in Barranquilla (d. Zeballos) two weeks ago."

Falla, no. 2 seed, took a medical timeout in Rd.1, but got through. Then withdrew before the second round with knee problems.

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

It's been a while, but the curse is still existent: Carlos Berlocq, ranked #37 in the world, lost the opening round of Braunschweig challenger against German wild card Jan-Lennard Struff (#392).

Simultaneously the other top seeds in Winnetka (Benjamin Becker) and Panama City (Michael Russell) also lost their opening matches...

Re: ATP Challenger Tour "Player Spotlight" curse

This week was an anti-curse. Apparently Kavcic is now the #9 player in the World.
