Re: Advice please!

OK - I'll try and help as best I can. Tickets are already available on line - they accept credit card or a Bankers' order but I know they won't post them out to a foreign country so you would have to pick them up at the Box Office. They will usually fax or email you a "voucher" as proof of purchase that you show them at the Box office. Some American friends of mine did it last year with no problems.

I think it's easy enough to buy tickets on the day for qualifying and earlier rounds - only the Final and semis etc would be sold out a long way in advance.

I have friends in Madrid that I stay with so I know nothing personally about Hotels, - but I guess if you contact the Madrid Tourist Board they should help. The nearest metro station is called "Lago" - it's about 5 minutes walk away from the venue - so you want to ask for Hotels, B & B's in that area. Or "Lago" is on a direct line back into the city centre (takes about 15 minutes) so you could stay there and commute in everyday - the tube is really cheap and efficient, runs very late at night and is much safer for women to travel on than the London equivalent. If you do stay in the city - always get a tube and not a taxi because the traffic is appalling in Madrid and it will cost a lot of money.

I love Madrid - the staff there are really friendly, you can watch practice easily and there are a couple of other courts with unreserved seating where you can watch early matches and doubles for the price of your main court ticket. There are bars and snack bars etc there and shops as well, and there's a grassy area outside where you can sit and have a drink in between matches if the weather is nice.

Hope that helped a bit.

Re: Advice please!

Rosie, I've been meaning to ask you... is there another restaurant / something like it besides the one 'above' the training courts (where they have burgers, fries, pizza) and the sandwhich bar below that?

I tend not to eat there anyway - just have a huge breakfast and then go out for dinner in the evening. I think the most I ever ate there was a salad sandwich!!! How long are you going to be in Madrid for?

It's quite cheap to eat out in Spain, so as Rosie said stock up on a big breakfast, and just buy some food before you go to the venue and you'll be fine.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Mmm.... that won't work for me We probably won't have breakfast with our hotel, and I'll need to eat something throughout the day. Plus... the first few days, there's LOTS of tennis, so no time to go out for dinner!

Yes - I guess because I go to so many tournaments I'm a lot more "choosy" about the tennis matches I watch - I'm certainly not one of these people who stays there from first match til the very last ball is struck! Unless David is playing late, I tend to watch the morning and afternoon matches and then leave about 7.00pm to go home for a shower and dinner. And if he is playing in the evening then I tend to go sightseeing/shopping during the day and just go to the later afternoon and evening sessions.

Re: Advice please!

No, I won't be going all week. I really want to see Madrid as well this time, and the tickets are way too expensive as well IMO (that part of the week at least).

Btw, the tournament starts on October 17 (monday)

Re: Advice please!

One s definitely take advantage of the generous buffet breakies in Spanish hotels -- they are the best!!

Yep, Rosie, Madrid traffic is horrendous... it rivals London's and is worse than Paris [fr what I can recall].

So you can get tix online? Not thru Corte Ingles [which I found impossible].

Have fun there... wish I were going.
