Lightbulb Early news

I've heard from some of my reliable sources that Marat has been the first player to confirm to this tournament. Tommy Haas and Rogi are also big possibilities (also given the fact Rogi is the defending champion) but it's unlikely Roddick will come back. Tournament organisers are also trying very hard to get Nadal, Hewitt, Agassi and Pim Pim Johansson to come to the tournament...looks like it could be a great field. Will post more when I find out more!

Federer to return to Thailand

Bangkok - World No 1 Roger Federer will defend his title against the likes of Marat Safin, Tim Henman and hometown hero Paradorn Srichaphan in September's Thailand Open.

The $550 000 (about R3,6-million), 32-draw Asian stop on the ATP tour was given a further boost with the signing of a new contract with the professional tennis body.

The tournament could see another showdown between Federer and his Russian arch-rival Safin, the world No 5 who scored a stunning upset over the Swiss master in the semifinals of the Australian Open in January.

The tournament is from September 26 to October 2.

Re: Early news

yeah well they tried very hard to get Nadal but in the end he wouldn't sign

I think the Spaniards who are playing in Beijing probably won't come because they'll go to Beijing then back to Europe for Davis Cup and then they won't want to come back to Asia again so quickly...that's what happened last year too. But perhaps Carlos will come since he likes Bangkok and I don't think he'll be playing DC...I don't know. Lopez also came last year so he might come back too though he is going to Beijing, not sure if he's in DC though. I don't think Ferrero will because he is going to Beijing and he'll be in the DC team. Robredo is not going to Beijing but I don't think he'll come to Bangkok.

If I hear anything more I'll post it here!
