Well, that had to happen at some point ... Montréal Draw.

TommyB called this a "test" in the other thread. I disagree. That's putting it optimisically. I think we can kiss this one goodbye. You'll have to drag Tommy on court for this first round match, that's how motivated I see him for this one.

Pity, really.

Ah come on. Yes it's a tough draw, I don't like it, but there's no reason to give up here and now. We can't get cakewalk draws all the time. And something like revenge should be enough motivation right?

Re: Montréal - one match is better than nothing. Right?

It's not the overall tough draw. Hell, I wouldn't mind Roger in the first round, if that were possible. It's just ... as far as I imagine having gotten to know Tommy over the years, I see him already being annoyed as shit the moment he steps onto the court with Karlovic.

But maybe he'll prove me wrong ...

Oh yeah Karlovic (who should be banned from tennis) in R1 (h2h 1-4), then maybe the one he just lost against (1-3) and after that it could be Davydenko (the small, ugly Russian) (1-4). He'll really like that draw.
Well, lots of opportunities to get revenge, Tommy always says that's important for him.

This is the most worst-case scenario, Tommy could have chosen. This is...shit. Something like the super maximum credible accident
Karlovic-Gonzalez-Davydenko-Murray-Federer-Roddick/Djokovic
No way to see Tommy gaining points here., I really hope he proves me wrong...

Haas on his way back

Re: Montréal - one match is better than nothing. Right?

Karlovic is not so much of a bad draw, he will win that one considering both forms. But Gonzalez will be very tough, hope he is tired if he reached the final today. Still I think that is 50-50, as well as Davy. Can't see him beat Murray though, but QF would be great already.

Hope it was true that LA and Washington were warm-ups and now he is going full pull. Then nice things can happen.

Re: Montréal - one match is better than nothing. Right?

I think TommyB. is right.. indeed a tough draw, but it even could have been worse than that. Imagine, you get a mug in first round action and then Federer.. that's worse than Karlovic and Gonzo. I mean, against Dr. Ivo it is always the same... you have to serve well and try to get back some of that crushing serves.. if you do that, you have to win the point for sure.. and if not, then you have to be patient all the time and highly concentrated in the decisive tie-break at the end of eacht set. Sounds easy yeah.. but it is possible. And then Gonzalez.. revenge for sure.. think he can beat Del Pony today, so he will be tired.. also great chance in this encounter.. finally Davydenko, but who says that he gets to the R16? Well, played great last time, totally inform player.. but everything on clay, so why Mathieu oder even then Tommy could not beat him?

So, my first post here in the Tommy board.. absolutely my favourite player. Nice to see some other fans here and there

tds

Welcome tds!

Tommy got a crap draw for sure, but he can do it. We'll just have to take it one match at a time. I can't help but be optimistic about every match he plays. GO TOMMY!!!

Yeah, good to have you here, tds.

The only good thing about such a draw is that there isn't really much room for disappointment. Each and every single win would be huge, so even surviving that first round could fill Tommy with much confidence, considering his personal struggle with players like Karlovic. And then I'd actually really like to see a rematch with Gonzalez, Tommy's always pretty fired up when a revenge is in store.

We'll see what happens.

Tommy is capable of playing much better, for an entire match, than he did in the last two tournaments. If he decides to focus, he certainly is capable of beating Karlovic. He needs to return to using his excellent mind as a weapon.

If not ... one more reason to be pissed-off mightily.
