Tommy in Halle

Good luck for Tommy in Halle!!!!!
(unless he plays against Kiwi )

BTW, I watched the Becker vs Wilander exhibition match in Halle today on TV and they said that Tommy will be a co-commentator tomorrow, Saturday, 14:00 CEST on DSF, for the Becker vs Stich match.

So I would advice you Tommy fans, who can receive DSF to tune in because, at least for me, it's always fun to listen what the players are saying when they are commentating a match.

For example, I also liked it very much with Michael Stich and Martina Hingis as (co)commentators on Eurosport, so maybe Tommy has also some intersting things to say... and just listening to his voice no matter what he says should be great, too

Re: Tommy in Halle

Patrick Kühnen said that he was practising with Tommy short after his first round loss against Ferrero on indoor hardcourt and carpet in Munich for a few days because the weather was so bad and didn't allow pracitising on grass.

BTW, I'm not sure about the how long Red Ayme remains his coach.
Normally, it's not a good sign if your "real" coach doesn't accompany you to the tournaments and if you are asking your Davis Cup team captain for some practice

There are also a few rumors that Tommy isn't too happy about his coach Red Ayme anymore.
Just read the article (if you can read German). It's just another prove that Haas felt more comfortable during the World Team Cup where Kühnen was responsible than with Ayme.

Quote:

Re: Tommy in Halle

Interesting article, Neely. It seems that Patrik Kühnen is doing a really good job as German captain, the players have a lot of respect for him. I suppose his ego isn't such an issue as it was with Becker, for example.

My German guys are like the cast of the Wizard of Oz:

Rainer = Lion
Kiwi = Scarecrow
Tommy = Tin Man
Flo = Dorothy

...but I still love 'em

Re: Tommy in Halle

Tommy outguns Carlsen 6-7(3) 6-2 6-4

a few difficulties in the 1st set, but as a very postive note I can say that he didn't lose serve once in the whole match and that he had a very impressive 2nd serve winning percentage of around 75%.

That's really strong and in that match you could see that Tommy's 2nd serve looked much healthier and stronger than in his early comeback matches.
He seemed to have worked a lot on that.

Waske also said that Tommy didn't lose serve in their doubles match and he also didn't in his match against López.
So it makes 7 sets that Tommy was not broken

Hope that continues, but against Novak, that's a much more difficult opponent who didn't lose any time winning his matches this week so far

Re: Tommy in Halle

Tommy lost 4-6 6-7(1) to Jiri Novak

too bad, I thought he could have a chance, but Novak looks really good and solid the first few games in the 1st set before TV tuned out.

best of luck in your next tournament, Tommy!
always like to see you playing

Re: Tommy in Halle

Tommy after his loss to Jiri Novak:

German version:
Quote:

English version:
Quote:
How would you rate your overall performance today?
I did a good job, I think. There were a lot of high-level rallies, I played good tennis and I absolutely had the chance to win. Unfortunately, I lost some of the big shots. I had bad luck. But Novak played better today. In critical and important situations he played marvellous. Those one or two points in a match are decisive, next time it may go the other way round. But nevertheless the whole week was very positive for me. I’m happy that I reached the quarters and I played three tough and good matches. Now I’ll have one week off, will do some physical training and stay fit to get ready for Wimbledon.

Did he deserve to win?
Yes, he definitely did. I respect his performance, but cannot blame me for anything. Perhaps I should have won some big points, but he had always the better answer, served directly in the corner. Of course I’m a bit disappointed. I would have loved to play the semis against Roger, but it was a good week for me. Thanks to Patrik Kuehnen for supporting and practicing with me.

Re: Tommy in Halle

and as a special side note, especially for Alfonso who said some time ago, after Tommy lost to Ferrero in Roland Garros, that Tommy often looks like a bad/sore loser:

"Did he deserve to win?" - "Yes, he definitely did. I respect his performance"
"but he had always the better answer"

well, a sore loser sounds different to me

Re: Tommy in Halle

Tommy, best of luck in youre next tournement. I would love to see Haas back in the top ten, where he belongs , but he's going to have to win a slam, or have VERY good results, the rest of the season to have a chance of qualifiying for Houston. I would love to see him go far at Wimbledon, he has a great game for grass after all. Just a little fine tuning on his Serve & Volley game, and he should have a great Wimbly.

"I think that now and until the end of my career, I can really play with my mind at peace, and no longer hear that I've never won Roland Garros." - Roger Federer
