It seems that aces and ugliness triumphs over beauty - again

OK. This Guccione ace guy just has to go to Juanqui's Most Wanted Victim for 2006! I hope Juanqui beats him next time!

Guccione must have been really serving VERY WELL to hold so easily all the time. I still wish I could have seen it.

JC, why can't you beat someone ranked outside the top 150?

What would Anderson say?

I'm disappointed, but I know he played well. Even though he lost, he played really, really well. His first serve has really improved since the last time I saw him (which was Wimby last year! Dear god!) and he really challenged Guccione, but the serves just got the better of him, too fast, too wide, too strong. Apart from a few backhand errors from JC he played really, really well, and it really was very close, especially in the third, like the score suggests.

Now I feel sort of shitty cause I wont get to see him tomorrow. Damn.

Cheering for Juan Carlos, Igor, Richie, GGL, Sebastien, Carlos, Marat, Tommy and Rafael!

Hmm... that confusion about not being signed up for Auckland sure threw a huge spanner in the works... a bad omen...

Well, Juanqui, I guess it's back to the drawing board -- you have almost one whole week to get into shape for the AO and to get at least as far as R3... buena suerte. Next match, you can lose the first set and win the match.

No doubt the crowd was for the big-serving Aussie.

This is written in GM about the match:

serving VERY WELL seems an understatement here

It should be serving superbly well. Big servers are getting on my nerves.

Sometimes I hate being an Australian. They were totally for him. I think I would've yelled at the crowd if I was there and I would have yelled "Vamos!" about a million times.

Big servers, to me, sort of feel like they have no substance. Like the only way they win the majority of their points is through serving and not through anything strategical, or tactical or well constructed. It almost seems as if they don't really earn the points. But that's just me and my negative, cynical feelings.

No substance? Umm, hello? Look at Roddick, does he have any substance to his game outside his serve? That's all they know how to do, serve big and hit the hell out of the ball. They're the cavemen of tennis.

What would Anderson say?

Ok, I think that means you agree with me Huge servers are popping up more and more often in both ATP and WTA. It's almost like they think more power on serve = win. And most of the time it does, which is a real shame because what's so fun about seeing people hit ace after ace, after ace?
