The match was ugly but the result very pretty.
Youzhny made a lot of errors and Juanqui some aweful shanks but his serve was good. Impressive to beat a top 20 only his 2nd match back from injury.
So glad he's still playing. Hope he makes it to the US hard courts.
Great to have you back in the forum!
JC's entered Canada and Cincy using the protected ranking. Let's hope he stays fit and do some damage in the US, too.
JC's victory is the top story on ATP right now.
Ferrero Finding Form; Kubot Continues Good Run
by ATP Staff
Playing just his seventh match of the season, former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero battled from behind to defeat the only remaining seed at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart, No. 3 Mikhail Youzhny, 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-2 in the second round on Thursday.
The Spaniard, who has been limited to just three tournaments this season due to wrist and knee injuries, narrowly lost the first set, but rebounded strongly with four breaks of serve to claim his third victory in four meetings with Youzhny after two hours and 15 minutes.
“I’m really happy because for me my goal in this tournament is keep healthy,” said Ferrer. [sic.
] “I came from a long injury, so I wanted to play some matches, didn’t matter the result. Of course it’s very nice to win. After these two matches, I get into the tournament, I get a little bit of the rhythm that I need to play good tennis.”
The 31-year-old Ferrero is playing his first tournament since losing in the first round at the Mutua Madrid Open in May. Looking to reach the semi-finals in Stuttgart for the second year in a row, he will face fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers, who dismissed France’s Benoit Paire 6-4, 7-5 with four breaks of serve.
