Re: Magnus Norman

I found an article on www.tv4.se... can anyone translate?? Thanks in advance!!

Sweden's Former French Open Finalist Norman Retires

By Oliver Grassman
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Sweden's former French Open finalist Magnus Norman announced his retirement Friday, citing a string of injuries for his decision.

"It feels pretty good (to retire)... It's been three years filled with injuries," he said at a news conference held at the Stockholm Open where he has been a spectator.

The 28-year-old lost to Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten after a four-set battle in the French Open final in 2000, his best year when he was ranked second in the world and won five ATP titles.

He won the Rome Masters that year and also reached the Australian Open semifinals, where he lost to Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov.

For the next three seasons Norman struggled with hip and knee injuries and large parts of those campaigns were written off as he underwent surgery on several occasions.

Although he reached the Tokyo final in 2002 as a qualifier, he never recovered his old form and retires with 12 ATP titles, five of those coming in 1999.

Re: Magnus Norman

I'm sad that Magnus had to end his career because of injuries and at such a young age. He was a great player before his many injuries and has left a lot of memories. I will always remember the FO final. I hope he has a great life and remains happy!!! And hopefully he'll stay involved in tennis somehow

Re: Magnus Norman

After watching Swedish TV the whole evening and talking to friends who went through something similar (thanks Nathalie), I have finally found the way to the Internet.
I still don´t know what to think and cannot believe what has happened this evening! Why?
Magnus has been my favourite player since 1997 (and will always remain my favourite player even in the future )! I have supported him in so many matches and liked him as a great and fair sportsmen and a big tennis player with a great fighting spirit! I was always feeling with him during the matches, because he never gave away a match, even if he was down 0:5.
During such a situation, he also became my favourite player, because 1997 in Båstad he was down 0:5 against Adrian Voinea, but Magnus turned the match, won it and won finally the whole tournament!
For me, this was one of the great Magnus matches, but there have been many, many others!

Today evening, Magnus went to the studio where the Stockholm Open are broadcasted from and first I was just happy to see him on TV again.
But then he said he has taken a decision and this is that he will stop his career. He has taken this decision together with his doctor and his family, and his doctor said that he would risk his future health when he would go on playing tennis on profi niveau. This is the biggest point why Magnus finally decided to give up. But he did not seem to be ledsen at all. He said the last 3 years with injuries have been so terrible for him, and he is happy to stay there and to say that he has decided himself.
Magnus said also, that he will maybe work in the Swedish junior tennis and help the kids to become a good tennis player!

Well, I don´t know what to say more at the moment, just

Well, all you guys, I will translate the article later, guess there will follow more articles in the next days
I really hope this forum will stay alieve even after Magnus now has retired and that his fans don´t forget him!

Thanks for so many wonderful tennis matches and other happenings, Magnus!

Tommy Robredo David Ferrer Pere Riba Fernando Verdasco

Pico Monaco ~ Edu Schwank ~ Stan Wawrinka ~ Dani Gimeno ~ David Marrero ~ Marc Lopez ~ Marco Chiudinelli ~ Marcel Granollers

I miss you on tour, Nors, Bjösse, Simon & Pim Pim
