Joakim Noah: an embarrassment to the legacy of Yannick

I don't know how many of you are college basketball fans, but last night, the University of Florida won its second NCAA college basketball championship (back to back no less). A yet, in the post game interview, Noah set back respect for the student athlete 100 years. Here's the clip:

Re: Joakim Noah: an embarrassment to the legacy of Yannick

I don't know what is up with Joakim. When I first started reading interviews with him- he came across as very intellectually curious and aware of the world. His first interview in SI showed a very neat worldly kid who- although hyper- was much more cognizant of matters in the world such as poverty than a lot of college kids. They also talked about how he has always been one to ask good questions in class, etc. But lately- he has presented himself as a big goof ball/idiot. Do not understand. I don't care if he is passionate and hyper, but why sound like an idiot?

Well- at least he is still very good at always making sure that his team mates are recognized. He didn't want to do the initial SI story because he did not think it would be right to single him out from his team.

I do have to say- I thought it was neat of him to stay this year when after last year- his stock in the draft was as high as it ever would be. Granted- he doesn't need the money- but even so- a lot of kids would have struck while the draft iron was blazingly hot like it was last year and not have stayed in college.

I like a lot of players.

I don't see the big deal..........he is a college kid having fun. Give him a break. He is enjoying himself. Is he suppose to act studious all the time?? This was a big moment in his life. When I was in college, I knew plenty of smart, intelligent guys who could act like goof balls in this situation. Don't judge him by this.

And, how exactly did he set back respect for student athletes?? Have you met many student athletes??

He is too old to be acting like a fool.

Why did a tennis player have this kind of offspring.

The ATP deserves a better class of player, and I'm gonna give it to 'em - Djoker

The adrenaline was pumping him up........and he was ecstatic.........in situations like this, people can sometimes act like goof balls.

The real embarrassment to student athletes are those who have scholarships but don't even know the answer to 2+2. I was once asked to tutor a basketball player, on scholarship, and he didn't even know the difference between odd and even numbers Yet, he had the 4 year scholarship, while others with a dose of intelligence racked up thousands of dollars, in bills, to get an education.

Lmao that is some horrendous dancing. That guy is a really good player though, he was the energy guy on that team. So it really isn't that surprising for him to go off like that. Wouldn't you just love to see Nadal do that if he wins the French again? That would be hilarious.

I like people who aren't serious 100% of the time, but that was pretty god awful.

Andreev - Cilic - Dolgopolov - De Bakker - Djokovic - Gulbis - Haase - Hrbaty - J Johansson - Kucera - Kuznetsov - Russell - Simon - Sweeting - Thron

He stayed because his family is already rich. He was guaranteed a #1 pick last year, millions in shoe deals, etc. etc. Would some kid who grew up in poverty, worked his ass off to make it that far, risk that opportunity - NO!

Guess what? Noah's draft stock dropped like a rock since then. He won't be getting the 40+million shoe deal. He won't even be picked in the top 3 if he leaves now. But it didn't matter much financially to *him*, because his dad has had 10234232323 endorsement/ad deals with French companies

All kids embarass their parents and all parent embarass their children. I fail to see what this has to do with Noah's legacy.

Re: Joakim Noah: an embarrassment to the legacy of Yannick

Oh god, the only one that is embarassing himself is you starting such a ridiculous thread.
Why am I sure that you haven't ever touched a basketball?

The guy just accomplished the one thing he & his teammates came back for, and solely dedicated a whole year for, and he isn't allowed to say that "we are going to party big, really big, you don't know what I'm talking about, but my Gator boys know what I'm talking about!!!"? Maybe the voice he said it in was a little comical or unnatural for an upper class kid like he is, but remember he is a baller, therefore living in a baller's environment on a daily basis. I don't see the problem.

The dancing was funny too, let the kid celebrate his emotion please.

To say that a kid who has won the NCAA twice in a row as an extremely important part of his team, being the Finals MVP the first time, is an embarassment to his dad because you don't like the way he celebrates is just absurd. The guy has managed to get to the highest level in another sport than his father! Sure, he had considerable help, but it's very impressive to go so far regardless of the circumstances.
Furthermore, he is an absolute team/energy guy, who shows a lot of personality and heart on the court, so I am very sure Yannick Noah isn't too disappointed.
