Tomb of Jesus, the Magdalene and their son?

Anyone believe this? No Resurrection? They found both Marys in Jerusalem, so Mary Magdalene never made it to southern France, I guess

Film by James Cameron.

Quote:
The claim that was being presented to the world's media and which will be aired on the Discovery Channel on Sunday was that the two boxes once contained the bones of Jesus of Nazareth and his wife Mary Magdalene. Another box, not present at yesterday's event but coincidentally on display in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, contained, so the theory goes, the bones of their son, Judah.

The boxes, which housed human bones and are known as ossuaries, are made out of Jerusalem limestone with its distinctive colour of clotted cream. The smaller of the two bears the inscription Jesus, son of Joseph, while the larger and more lavishly decorated is marked in the name of Mariamene e Mara. According to the Canadian documentary-maker, Simcha Jacobovici, the inscription translates as Mary Magdalene the Master. It is his contention that he and his team of advisers have conclusively found the tomb of Jesus and his family.

The funny thing is that Simcha is not even Christian he is Jewish. It is like Chrisitans slecturing muslims or Jews about their religion (which would be verbotten). Best is to have Christians like Dan Brown lecture even if what they say may or not be true.

Life is empty and meaningless. It is in emptiness that we create possibilities for extraordinary results

It seems the names Joseph, Mary and Jesus were all common names at the time. I think these people have a lot more proving to do before they're taken seriously. In the end, it will just be another of those round about arguments that can't be proved one way or another, just gets some people a lot of attention.....guess being "King of the World" wasn't enough for Cameron, I think he's just trying to get rid of some of the competion

Re: Tomb of Jesus, the Magdalene and their son?

there where like 30+ jesuses running around at the time of jesus, so the chances of anyone of them having parents of the same name is high, plus it also could be from another period... not that it really matters no evidence either for or against a certain belief will change the views of believers and non believers.

You can have detailed undisputed evidence that jesus was a fraud, and people would still believe in him.

At the same time Noahs arc could be found in tact and be the size of a football field (it has to fit thousands of animals) and atheist would still say it was soemthing else, or it only proves noah existed but that doesnt prove much else...

So either way when it comes to religion, people are usually set in the non believer or believer category...

I agree with zicofirol on this, it doesn't matter what you find and what the evidence is, believers will never be convinced to think otherwise and neither will atheist.
I do think it is interesting to see that so many money is being wasted on trying to prove a theory that is dodgy at best. Religion is what it is, a way of life based on faith. Science really has nothing to do with it. As an almost graduated historian it amazes me to see that people are wasting good research money on this.

Wasn't his real name Yeshua in Hebrew and Iesous in Greek? It shouldn't say Jesus, right?

Indeed. I cannot fathom how they would "prove" the remains are THE Jesus anyway. It isn't like we can do a DNA test.

There were people a-plenty who were contemporaries of Christ and his disciples that would have LOVED to have discredited him. Even if they found a tomb that said "Here lies the body of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. We sure miss him, love the disciples except Judas" it STILL wouldn't prove anything conclusively.

They say they have done DNA on the bones to prove that Jesus and Mary were not blood related, and therefore probably husband and wife.
The definitive proof that it is Jesus could only come from a DNA test on a swab from God. The chance of God sending a saliva sample is fairly remote, but still more probable than getting one from Howard K. Stern.
