Arguement from todays headlines (brief citations)

On the front page of today's Wall Street Journal, (Wed., Feb. 21, 2007):
Quote:
Russian corruption has grown so vast and deep it could threaten political stability, a commission appointed by Putin reported.
On the short International blurbs section of the Arizona Daily Star, Wed., Feb. 21, 2007:
Quote:
EU ministers OK greenhouse-gas cuts.

BRUSSELS - European Union environment ministers agreed Tuesday on an ambitious target to cut greenhouse-gas emissions to 20 percent below their 1990s levels by 2020 in one of the boldest moves yet to contain global warming -- a goal likely to lead to mandatory limits for cars and pollution allowances for airlines.

The target must be approved at an EU summit next month.
VVV----my point----VVV
Until recently, the former "GATT" (general agreement on tariffs and trade) were 7, in number. Then Russia joined, after the end of the Cold War. Made it 8 industrialized nations. Then Europeanization became the order of the day...and they are perhaps, smilingly, the group of 30. (U.S.ofA. fits in amongst one, as an industrialized nation. I think.)

My point: does it seem to anybody else that this green turnabout, this anti-Global Warming furor is so...negative, so controlling, so revanchist...antagonistic to industrialism...that it's like a neo-Communism?

Nobody much lobbies for planting trees.=8^) It's all about taking away from the other fellow. You there, you have too much. You must acquiesce. Surrender that Cadillac, (Yankee.--)???

Surely you must be joking!?

There might be some arguing that USSR never was Communist in the true sense and all that, but that aside, its former leaders weren't exactly anti-industrialists.

I don't like hypocrites, but even worse are the ones who think it's OK to be an asshole as long as you are not hypocritical.

No. I meant that the overreaction to Global Warming has us overly tizzified. Hysterical.

Ban cars, limit air travel, in the EU, because an apparently plausible scientific theory has it so? Where's the tree-planting festivals? All the reaction is about taking stuff away from people.

I didn't mean anything so much about Russia. From what I heard back when they had just joined the group of eight industrialized nations, their economy wasn't very integrated with the west. Now China is building/buying so much raw materiel, to build stuff and export it...raw prices are rising.
