Philosophical discussion: Is life simple?

"Life is really simply, but we insist on making it complicated"
- Confucius

I've always debated this quote and I still cannot reach a conclusion.

Is life simple? Heck it can be, I mean people don't have to mary or lie or act in a complicated manner.

Then again, is it simple? Atoms and quarks and gluons, etc are all fundamental things in our universe, and they are simply there, but heck, this stuff is clearly not simple.

So, what do you say?

Do you agree with the quote?

A philosophical discussion of MTF? :D

Personally, I think it's far from it. Sure, a lot of people want to believe that there's nothing more to it that just 'living life to the full' and then dying. It's much easier than actually bothering to consider the strangeness of the fact that we're living on a planet revolving around the sun in a Universe we know virtually nothing of.

But does knowing nothing about the universe or the human make it something complicated?

As far as we know, the Sun, the planets, the empty matter in space, are all brainless things, they just are.

The brain is something that knows things around it, yet dosent know itself, or how it funtcions, this is a true wonder, in my opinion...

We are the only beings in the universe (as far as we know) that try to make sense out of things. Pehaps these things need no rationale....

yes i agree, i think this is the type of question that will be answered differnetly from people in different cultures. someone in a poor country whos main aim is to find food, water and a place to stay is likely to say life is fairly simple, as opposed to someone in a big western city

Lafuria, i believe it mainly depends on answering two big questions: What do u want to do with life and how are u going to do it. ofcourse life is not always that simple nor it is that easy going friend. Life journey is mostly full of obstacles, and unknowns.
But i believe it's a fact that someday our lives on this earth would end. Only memories of our relations, deeds and work 'd last. So it'd be very foolish simplfying/complicating everything. Somethings are worth looking after them or if u want complicating them. Other things are only worth dropping them away and it's that simple if u get what i mean :retard: ;)

Are accomplishments necesarily complicated?

What do you think about atoms and the universe and such, is it complicated?

Or is it simple but humans are limited in capacity anbd struggle to understand simple things that may require no understanding?

I wanna hear your opinion on that

These are quite insightful comments.

So, one could say that we Insist on making it complicated.

This quote has diffrent aspects to it.

Like Dorkino(whats your real name?)stated, On one side we have the human element, in which we admit that human beings are complex.

On the other hand we have the universe and life in general which may or may not be complicated.

Interesting comment Naranoc (what's you real name?)....

Does a simply life constitue we being ignorant of things around us? Is seeking knowledge a human desire?

I know plenty of kids, particularly in college, who have everything they could possibly want, money wise, yet don't give a damn about knowledge even if they have the perfect circumstances to become knowledgable people, in a sense, humans thriving for knowledge is not a necesity of our conditions of human beings.

I personally can't understand why some people don't care about learning things, maybe this complicates life....

Um, Yes, I did for a while, and am currently doing so, but I find philsophy class to be a waste of time, because frankly, IMO, there are a lot of philosophical sub-sections that are a waste of time....

others are interesting, like this discussion or is God real...

I guess it depends on the way you want to live your life. You can make it simple aswell as you can make it tough.
The thing is, feelings usually come in the way and they may complicate things, aswell as the need of food and water to survive, you need to get that and in order to do so, you have to do something about it which also complicates it, otherwise you wouldn't have a life altogether.

It's a complex topic really, because it varies for different people in the world, but in general standars, it depends on how you take life, how you live it and what you want to achieve.

Hehehe, it was a matter of time before you posted here :)

Are you gonna study philosophy in college?

But do we insist on making things complicated? what's your opinion?

Of course..wow, there is a lot to talk about that subject, believe me....

Of course, I know of Occams Razor, the ironic thing is that Man was a priest.

I suppose he belived that the notion of God is a simple one...

It can happen, but I believe some of those debates to be good because it something we generally take for granted (that God exists or dosent)

I mean if you go far back it time enough, it all leads to the question:

what happened before the big bang?

did the big bang happen?

what happened before god, if god ever existed.

I find it wrong, that many children are born into religous families already believeing in something they have no proper rational to question...

but whatever, that is a topic for another thread...
