Would have gone on longer if it wasn't interrupted by a ball from another table :haha:

And some people here complain about Monfils - Simon...

For a second, I thought the video was looped.

It's a pretty terrible game when you have two choppers facing each other.
Chopping vs aggressive looping can be fun to watch but not this, gruelling for both parties.

(in fact the motion of tugging the ball over the net with backspin is technically called 'pushing' the ball)

However these two should be disqualified. Even good choppers have enough variety to change the ball, this was not even practice level virtually no movement from them whatsoever

Watch the first minute, then skip to the last minutes of the video.

At the beginning, the japanese player (in the back) was being more aggressive, varying the speed and direction, but at the end it looks like a Guinness book record attempt, with zero risk being taken.

The umpire would/should have interrupted the rally anyway after a few more shots, as only 10 minutes are allowed.

Li Jie took advantage of the new rules after the point and won the match 4-3 from 0-2 down.

Except where both players or pairs have scored at least 9 points, the expedite system shall come into operation if a game is unfinished after 10 minutes' play or at any earlier time at the request of both players or pairs.
1. If the ball is in play when the time limit is reached, play shall be interrupted by the umpire and shall resume with service by the player who served in the rally that was interrupted.
2. If the ball is not in play when the time limit is reached, play shall resume with service by the player who received in the immediately preceding rally.

· Thereafter, each player shall serve for 1 point in turn until the end of the game and if the receiving player or pair makes 13 good returns the receiver shall score a point.

· If the expedite system is introduced, or if a game lasts longer than 10 minutes, all subsequent games of the match shall be played under the expedite system.

yeah counterlooping, blocking and fishing is much more fun than watching endless push rallies where nothing happens.

Oh Sang Eun was a major proponent of good blocking turning defense into attack, quite fascinating to observe:

Also I think you'll like Zhu Yuling. Very tricky counterpuncher beating the world champion with great feel and redirection.

So basically, a let was called and the point didn't even count? :haha: They deserve it for that bullshit.

He ended up beating 2 Chinese players in one tournament with this tactic, but the 3rd Chinese player was too skilled to fall victim to him.
