39 dead in terror attack at nightclub in Istanbul

2017 is going to be another shitty year isn't it?

Istanbul Reina nightclub attack 'leaves 35 dead' - BBC News

Initial reports claimed the attacker was dressed as Santa Claus, though that's been denied by the Prime Minister.

Attacker left his gun at the nightclub before fleeing, he is still on the loose. One eyewitness claims there were 3 gunmen, other reports claim 2 gunmen, others say just the one.

One of the victims was a security guard who survived the bomb blasts at Besiktas a couple weeks ago

Disgusting.
Unfortunately they are so close to ISIS territory, who are trying to destroy tourism and every day lives wherever they can.

This is a make or break year for Turkey. Could easily destabilise into civil war.

Re: 35 dead in terror attack at nightclub in Istanbul

Well what to say. ISIS threatened us on their magazine last month. Police was heavy last night because of that during New Year celebration in fancy neighbourhoods near bars, pubs and nightclubs, but they couldnt stop. Gunman entered the club and killed people who are drinking and dancing, having fun. 10 kms away from my home, just across the bosphorus, (my home in Anatolian side, nightclub in Europe). We heard about this, just 2 hours after we welcomed 2017, after we just hoped to be a bit better, this is a clear psychological war. Just try to think, 20 minutes away from the place you live, some 40 people is getting killed in a nightclub by a bastard just bcs you are who you are. It was around 2:00 am, I was reading a book, and try to be positive about future in that very moment, and BBC news sent me a notification on my phone that people slaugtered in my city. What the fuck is this?

Well if you ask about us, we cant breath. Istanbul was one the most inspring, alternative, authentic european cities 3-4 years ago. I traveled all around western Europe by train when I was in college, and came back, still loved this city, among the other people from Europe and beyond who told me the same. We had millions of tourists every part of year, once we even passed Rome in that. Look what happend to us now in just 3-4 years. We are not all religious fuckheads, we are normal people, we feel european, we are secular, Istanbul is 3 hours away by car from Bulgaria and Greece, and that distance is more than 2 days to Syria. We are close to you guys. But we got taken captive by this ISIS and other terrorist groups. World needs to help us.

Van Persie, Sneijder, Podolski, EURO 2016 winner R. Quaresma, former nba players Ekpe Udoh, Datome etc all playing here. Just few examples. Beşiktaş, representative of this country, beat Napoli away this year in UCL, never lost against both Napoli and Benfica in 4 matches. We are also passionate, and talented people. It is not all awful people here.

Istanbul is not Syria, it is not an Arab city, it is a wonderful city, with mostly modern people, I dont know whats happening to us. But thing is, world cant afford to lose Istanbul, capital of Orthodox church, last capital of grand Byzantine empire.

It's time for @Pepe Imaz to infiltrate ISIS. Fuck tennis, there are more important matters to attend to.

I don't think this is appropriate thread and theme for Pepe Imaz trolling and unfunny jokes.

People really died here, so please show some respect.

The longer the truth is suppressed, the more suffering there will be.

US citizen who was inside the club that night, sums up the situation perfectly.

Re: 39 dead in terror attack at nightclub in Istanbul

Its a sad day indeed, but I feel like this is more an assault against Europe not Turkey, just look at the victims. Last year the first 19 identified victims were foreigners and now again atleast 69% foreigners fell victim. I would advise all Europeans to stay away from Turkey.

You almost could feel as the fundamental Islamists turned against Turkey because they secularized their state and refuse to play all along with their wider "uniting all Islamic brothers" policy.
