Re: European Athletics Championships Gotebörg (6-13)

Oh hi everyone! Estonia has also a huge number of athletes at the EC this time - 23, not sure if it's the most ever though. Our World Champion in javelin Andrus Värnik is not going, he injured his elbow and hasn't been good this whole season. But our discus men Gerd Kanter and Alex Tammert 'should' bring a medal at least. Our athletics is doing better than in the past but as we're a small nation there are not many at the very top.
Enjoy watching the European Championships!

Holland never had much success in atlethics since Fanny Blankers-Koen. She arguably happened to be the greatest female athlete ever (winning 4 gold medals in the 1948 olympics).
Ever since, Dutch track and field success has been incidental, but very limited. Rens Blom won a fluke gold medal at the last World Championships in the pole vault and Ellen van Langen won gold at the 800 meters in Barcelona 1992. That's about it.

Apart from Smith you can look out for Simon Vroemen (steeple chase), Lornah Kiplagat (10k), Karin Ruckstuhl (if you're Swedish, you might know her as one of the women fighting for second place at the heptathlon) and Bram Som (800m).

I'm from Belgium so I know most of the dutch athletes. I always watch the dutch tv because belgian tv sucks

MY FAVORITES :

The Belgians : Mallise O.Rochus C.Rochus Vliegen Norman Wauters Elseneer Darcis

Others : Ljubicic Stepanek Agassi Djokovic Andreev Nieminem Tursunov Mirnyi Istomin

And again I'm hoping for Lobinger and Pitkämäki.

She's crazy as is gets, but what an athlete! Mucho respect for Carolina. Nice second place for Karin Ruckstuhl too! First medal for Holland at the EC and a trashing of her own national record.

Re: European Athletics Championships Gotebörg (6-13)

Pognon fails again, this is not a surprise.

Obikwelu did it easily and as for Klüft, she keeps on winning, though it's better when the Barber is there, makes it more interesting.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

George, what do you reckon, who will win the javelin tonight, Thorkildsen or Pitkämäki?
