Is the forum dying?

I remember back when I joined this place was packed, Nadal fans, Federer fans, Djokovic fans and others, every final would get hundreds of comments, every shock huge responses and the discussion would be pretty endless

Fast forward to today and this place is dead, even Querrey beating Djokovic was not that spectacular, only a few hundred replies compared to 1000 for the legendary Nadal v Rosol result.

Can MTF be saved?

Re: Is the forum dying?

Aye, MTF is on its arse.

You could fit the number of hardcore MTFers in a phone box these days.

I think this place peaked a few years ago and is now done.

Re: Is the forum dying?

Even 2015 was a stronger MTF year than the current one.
Several good posters left the forum for good (or forever it seems).

The remaining ones are often bitter and can only bitch about their faves who are injured or out of form.
Olympic year doesn't help either.
I expect to heat up somewhat at the end of the season (Sept-Oct).

I think the main reason was the vs-gate. Many users still can't log in to this site as they don't know which email address they used to register (resp. don't have the pws to this old email-accounts anymore).

I had this problem and had to email the admin.

But even earlier on in the year this place was on its knees, post numbers are substantially down

Then they should have found out how to overcome this. Only thing to do is fill out the form and submit a current email address.
Site admin got in contact at least 3 times with me to help me, even after it was resolved.

Re: Is the forum dying?

It's an era where there are multiple accounts that provoke you based on the slightest bit of commentary to their idol, and any form of retaliation will be met with consequences to your account's wellbeing. These people are allowed to roam the site with no problems spreading their crap. I'm not going to call names, I've learned my lesson.

It's sad, because unlike some 12 year olds posting here, who've likely started watching tennis a year ago, as a past lurker of this site, it's sad to see it turn to a steaming pile of crap in comparison to its glory days

For reference, check out the "X def. X" threads after a match in the past, and compare it to now.

Re: Is the forum dying?

MTF is dead for a long time already. The password thing has nothing to do with it.

You have the same people on GM writing the same kind of stuff 24/7, then there is the BSG clique and the people who play TT and that stuff.

Forums have a tough stand these days with FB and Twitter but when you are at tournaments and get in contact with people they either already know MTF and don't find the place attractice to join or left the forum because of what is going on.

Trolls and people who like to stirr things up are the ones who stay but I learned the lesson that's this is what the forum wants to have...

Re: Is the forum dying?

I think from tennis world, everyone is on Twitter.

Also, the improvement of ATP website, streamings everywhere make people not have to look for information on the forums.

It's a problem for literally all forums, not just this one.

Just like the tennis.

Beauty is not the goal of competitive sports, but high-level sports are a prime venue for the expression of human beauty.

Re: Is the forum dying?

It's life in the fan boy world. Sport forums are built on fan boyism and Nadal and Federer built a fan boy base from 2008.

Now 8 years on we have immense nostalgia and these fan boys are living in excrutiating pain every time Djokovic wins anothers masters 1000 and major.

Tennis is in a bad state at the moment, but it's not because of either Djokovic or Murray, or even Nishikori, it's because of the rest, the rest of the field are weak and can't step up and the youngsters coming through, like your dull as dish water Alex Zverev are tall, one dimensional mechanical players that move competently. The game is going to become serve and first bash dominated and when it does, the fan boys will be in even more disaray.

A fan boy becomes a fan boy because he is lost for identity, so with every cloud there comes a silver lining. May be and perhaps these lost souls will attempt to find themselves instead of hiding behind a superstar athlete and buying into a fan boy narrative.

Re: Is the forum dying?

Tennis became borderline depressing tho, we only have about 20-30 good players and the rest is pretty meh. There were once a few very great players lurking right after the top30 who could clinch a few astonishing results. It is like it is at the moment because the gaps between top players are too big, for example Djokovic miles away from rest of the field, the top8 from the players behind and so on.
