Wink Beautiful places to see before you die! Add your picks

I want to start a thread with worlds must beautiful places. Both man made places as well as natural places. Such as palaces, castles , cathedrals, cities, canyons, beaches, coral reefs etc.
It is always nice to look out for new travelling destinations.;-)
So what are the most stunning places you have ever seen? Which places would you advice others to visit? Feel free to add your own best places (with good pictures and a short introduction text)

To start:

Bora Bora (French Polynesia)
Beautiful tropical island surrounded with a beautiful lagoon. one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Pyramids of Giza (Egypt/Africa)
The only "real" Wonder that stood the test of time. It is the only Wonder of the original Wonder of the Worlds list of ancient Greek philosophers that still exists. Probably greatest achievement of construction engineering ever.

Venice (Italy/Europe)
Incredible architectural engineering. Built on 118 small islands in a lagoon. Founded around 400 AD. Played an important role in medieval and renaissance Europe. Many pieces of architecture in the town actually symbol its history. Like the Santa Maria della Salute symbols the end of the plague.

Great Wall of China (China/Asia)
First constructions started around 800 BC. Several times rebuilded. One of the greatest achievements of construction engineering ever.

Grand Canyon (USA/North America)
Stunningly large canyon. As far as the ey can see. ltough not the deepest acnyon, probably still the most stunning canyon to watch.

Ankor Wat (Cambodia/ Asia)
Giant temple complex. Largest religious monument in the world. Almost 800 years old.

Machu Picchu (Peru / Latin America)
Old town located at an incredible location high in the mountains of the Andes.

Paris (France/Europe)
According to many one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Also long history and great architecture.

Yosemite Valley (USA/North America)
Incredible valley surrounded by beautifully shaped mountains. Nature at its best.

Halong Bay (Vietnam / Asia)
Beautiful bay surrounded by spectacular lime stone formations.

A lot of small towns/cities in Britain. I have visited most of them already. Lincoln is one that I haven't visited yet. I need to go to evensong at Lincoln Cathedral at least once.

I rarely travel abroad, but if I wouldn't mind seeing Yellowstone, the mountains in Idaho and Washington, and the Northern Territory in Australia.

In Europe: Minsk, Budapest, Brest (Belarus), Königsberg, Malta, Eisenach (for J. S. Bach's home), Wewelsburg, Chartres, Wroclaw, Warsaw, Danzig, Bayreuth, Milan, Salzburg...

In a different age, I would have loved to visit Paris, Brussels, Vienna and Berlin. Not now.

Re: Beautiful places to see before you die! Add your picks

Especially Italy and China have so many incredible places.

Li River (China/Asia)
River though lime stone structures.

Jiuzhaigou Valley (China/Asia)
Only well known for a couple of decades. Before that unkown to almost anyone. Stunning beauty. This picture of falls is just one of them. Unfortunately its location is so remote that few China tours travel towards it.

Vatican City (Italy/Europe)

Lago Maggiore (Italy/Europe)

Jasper National park (Canada/North America)

Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe / Africa)

Monument Valley (USA/North America)
Incredible place. Well known from cowboy movies.

Bryce Canyon (USA/North America)

Taj Mahal (India/Asia)

Torres Del Paine in Patagonia (Chile/Latin America)

Re: Beautiful places to see before you die! Add your picks

This year I was in Jungfrau Region (Bernese Alps, Switzerland), surely one of the most beautiful places in the world. I was lodged in stunning Lauterbrunnen Valley, which inspired Tolkien (Rivendell!) and Goethe:

Incredible vertical world of steep cliffs, beautiful waterfalls and mountain faces. Huge contrast of deep valleys and 4-thousanders (3000-3500 meters of elevation difference!) and great composition of colors - from green warm valleys to white glaciers. Absolutely breathtaking - for a while I thought I was in paradise but prices brought me down to earth There are so many nature marvels in this region (not just Lauterbrunnen Valley and it's surroundings). For example stunning Grindelwald valley surrounded with rocky giants: famous Eiger and Wetterhorn. In addition there are fantastic lakes Brienz and Thun (near Interlaken) which have unspeakable color. One day I also went to Zermatt in Pennine Alps (yes, Matterhorn!). Here are some of my photos (tiny and bigger versions):

I've been to Jungfrau too. Surely one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had. I spent around four days there, hiking in Lauterbrunnen and sledding in Mürren (because I don't know how to ski). Would love to go there again one day.
