i don't like the song either. it's not as bad as you make it sound but still, fairly mediocre, no smash material.

she's cute and fun though. i wonder why people who've obviously been deprived of getting to know the girl behind the singer voted for her nonetheless, ranging from estonians to maltese.

Funny that Israel gave 0 points to GER.

I'm still a bit surprised, though. I thought it wasn't bad, but...comfortable winner? Hmmm.

Still, congratulations to Germany, nice to see one of the Big 4 win it again at long last

well it comes out of the BBC's general budget not directly from the government so unless they seriously interfere with the independence of the BBC, I think it will be safe

okay, i'll rephrase: the uk (be it the bbc, cameron or some other institution) won't fund the ESC anymore, starting 2011.

Well we've had that discussion here before and the BBC always say that whatever our results, we always do well out of Eurovision in terms of "value for money" and so on so there's no plans to pull out of funding it.

We'll see.

The message is clear though - last year we made a bit of a serious effort and came fifth. This year, back to the lazy indifferent selection process and we come last. So if they want to win, they have to try, simples.

If it is a song contest then the singer is not important. So really this is a win for the US/ Denmark.

Or we should look on this as equivalent to the Champion's League, where a German club, fielding players of any nationality, won.

We need a World Cup version, where everyone involved has to be a citizen of the country.

It's always the singer. At least as much if not more than the song itself.
And Germany's victory is a perfect example of how the singer can be much more important than the song.
After all, the song really is... crap. But she pulled it off, anyway.

So - get over it.

Song was simple but suited for Eurovision, at least the classic one, but we're having a house party here and if they play it one more time I swear I'm gonna go ballistic.

I never watch eurovision but happened to watch some of it yesterday. As usual most of the country votes were predictable

our song deserved much more than 16th place, it was like a mix of Moloko and Goldfrapp
