Austria decided to forfeit the start. That was officially explained by hinting at music-wise low standard of the competition and that there would be no true incentive for a serious musician or song writer to take part in this "circus". You can guess that their decision would have been slightly different if their results had been better the last years (they didn't even make the finals last year and didn't do much better all the years after Alf Poier's good rank either), but that was the official statement.

Re: Diggi Loo Diggi Ley the Eurovision Song Contest is coming oh yay! Come On Finland

Congrats Finland!!!
I'm no fan at all of Death Metal, Black Metal or this whole crazy, for me way too heavy metal scene in Scandinavia, but what Lordi performed was softer anyway and I can like such music, even though it would do it for me too if they hadn't worn such crazy horror masks which resembled Klingons a bit But the song itself, yes I could like it!

First I watched the first 12 or 13 contestants and I thought "damn, nothing good" and only recorded the whole thing and did something better meanwhile. When it was over, I looked throught the rest by fast-forward and well, there have been only four songs that I watched at full length: UK (liked it very much! ), Croatia, Finland and Ireland. The rest was nothing for me.

Music always depends on your taste. Personally, I'm okay with the winners (which is not always a given) because I don't generally dislike this genre, but of course I can understand people who claim that the Eurovision Song Contest is suffering a decline of values when Metal bands are winning right now One big Austrian Sunday newspaper commented is as "Euro-Horrorvision" today

Yes, maybe... but see it's all a matter of personal preference
I actually like that style of Spanish song (I loved Brujeria last year too ).

To be honest the song had a bit of a Spanish Bananarama sound to me - and I loved Bananarama

As for the repeated booing of Lithuania, let me explain: their entry was the one that consisted of nothing but these lyrics: "We are the winners of Eurovision. Vote for us!" Not going to go down very well with the home audience, and you obviously don't really care about winning if you devise a song like that.

The best part is always the results, not just for the blatant tactical voting but also the painful awkwardness of satellite delay and bad communication. I loved the Polish presenter's jokey announcement of 12 points to Poland, which was treated rather too seriously by the Greek presenters who instantly declared "You know that is not possible" before he had a chance to say "Just kidding!" Weren't those two a desperate pair? By the end the man in the shiny suit looked thoroughly fed up with the whole thing.

Of all the countries I think the Dutch treated the voting best, the bald, middle-aged guy announcing the vote there seemed to be some kind of darts player standing in a rowdy pub. I kept expecting him to declare, "One hundred and eeeiiiighhhhttttyyyy points to country X!" at any moment.
Who was this person? I didn't have the possibility of seeing the final (first time in my life, oh-no!) but despite Poland is always sending the pathetic songs, we should win one day just to make the event at our place and hire mister Kuba Wojewódzki as an announcer, he'd take a piss of everything and everyone and all who happened to see "World's Idol" (I know some of you did ) know what I mean!

Re: Diggi Loo Diggi Ley the Eurovision Song Contest is coming oh yay! Well done Finland

Back to Finland, we could have experienced this hysteria earlier, as I remember my friend texted me once Nightwish took 2nd place in national contest. Too bad Nightwish didn't make it then, it is one of my favourite bands.

The Germans need to bring back Guildo Horn, there was a fine performer.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Nightwish looks like the Brady Bunch compared to Lordi!

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....
