With some of his top T-Mobile teammates running support, captain Jan Ullrich plans to "fight for victory" in his home race, as the nine-day Tour of Germany begins today with the 170km trek through Eastern Germany.
"To me there's no doubt I want to fight for the victory," Ullrich said of his plan's for the magenta army at home.
Six Tour de France racers will be part of that T-Mobile sqaud, which includes the departing Alexander Vinokourov.
The 31-year old Ullrich spoke fondly of Vino, who will be be departing to Liberty Seguros next season, in the lead up to the German tour.
"Vino is a great professional. As long as he rides in magenta, he will give it his all for the team."
Vino won the Deutschland-Tour in 2001, while Ullrich has never won it.
Also racing for Bonn-based squad toward the ultimate destination of Bonn are Matthias Kessler, Stephan Schreck and Tobias Steinhauser and the Italian Giuseppe Guerini.
