any other swimming fans on here?

I've been really impressed by a few of the young american girls, and even one of the aussies so far.

I've heard of all of them, but I dont know too much about them, except that Northridge is in California, but its near the San Andreas Fault, so theres a lot of earthquake activity there, but you should really check out their sites...
yer, i've been to a couple of their sites, but i always end up checking out their basketball, football teams etc.

as far as I know, from the emails he sends me (on his mailing list, not personal emails ), I think he is aiming at a 50m three-peat in Beijing. If he pulls that off, he will go down as a true legend.
and that will stop the popov/hall rival :) i don't want him to win but if he does win then congrats to him :)

i think he will one that one! hoogenband and thorpe is not that fast at 50m maybe his only rival will be the one who placed 2nd at athens at 50m and maybe shoeman

that would be the downside of him winning - it would perhaps elevate him above Alex in swimming history ... and I dont think that is deserved. Alex was on top from 1992-1999 I think, whereas Gary Hall has a lot more time off in between Olympics, and doesnt race very often.

i hope he gets a chance to swim in relays though instead of someone else taking his place

or better still, Alex will get bored of his afterlife, and make a comeback :D
wish so! but he'll have tough competition i mean he's not young anymore :( but he still beats the time of some of the younger competitors in Athens :lol:

Mark Warnecke - 35 year old German, won the 50m breastroke.

i know, sprint freestyle is probably the toughest area in mens swimming.

my coach is always trying to get me (and other swimmers) to train for tougher events: 200m fly, 1500m free, 400 IM - because these events arent very popular, and its much easier to make the National team in these events.

i have big respect to players who are very good at 50m and 1500m co'z at 50m you have to be really good and fast to finish first and at 1500m you have to have the stamina of a super hero just to finish the race  and Grant Hackett is just unbelievable :worship:

when i was younger, my 2 biggest heros were probably stefan edberg and kieren perkins. I never thought that Hackett would eclipse Kieren , but it was made evident that FINA wanted all the old world records beaten and times (in general) to come down when they legalised those stupid swim suits.

that said, Hackett is amazing. He took Kierens record, but it was his swim in Athens last year, with the punctured lung that made me start to respect him a lot more.

This morning he probably pulled out another one of his best swims ever, beating Thorpes record. He knew he wouldnt be able to match thorpes time for the back half of the race, so he went out hard, and just held on :).

amazing swim

awww... the swim suit :( i honestly don't like them  for me they are too scientifically engineered that i kinda felt like they are cheating already  and some players don't wear them and some do so i don't know

well, its all a comfort thing.

some breastrokers dont wear them, because they are too tight around the thighs, so you cant kick properly.

some freestylers and butterflyers dont like them on their chest either, and just wear the legs.

backstrokers - most just wear legs.

but its all a matter of preference

but they do help the swimmer a bit right?

yer, they do provide a considerable streamline advantage through the water.

there were some figures reported when they first came out about how much they would lower swimmers times over each racing distance.

which in a sport where every hundredth counts, they make a considerable difference.

i only wear them in my most important races...

and not a full suit, either full legs or shorts.
that is fine :) but the full suit is too much for me
