don't know this genre well so submitted an obvious one. Maybe I'd place top 5 this time.

I've sent one of my favorite songs. Sorry I couldn't vote in the previous game.

In.

I will send my song when I'm decided. But this theme is terribly basic, once again. I'm disappointed, really.

thats the game.
I agree with the general idea behind what you are saying, but for most of us it would be quite tough to give something not famous from the 70s. But famous goes beyond classic rock. For instance, I would think that "Gentle on my Mind"(1968, damn it!) would not be very famous among our group of participants, but it is in every sense of the word a classic. Each of the following had at least one extremely GOATy album in the 70s:
Elton John, Blondie, Abba, Roberta Flack, James Taylor, Bill Withers, Rod Stewart, Bee Gees, Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, America, The Carpenters, The Pretenders, Don McLean, Bette Midler, John Denver, Glenn Campbell.
Most of these, IMO, would not be too popular among the classic rock and indie-brigades which are dominating this game. So, then what you're saying just boils down to don't submit the "big" classic rock numbers.

If you could choose, what theme would ya go for? Or no theme at all?

Hopefully the next winner has the sense to go for the 1700s theme. This modern music jazz is overrated, amigo's.

5. Theme(s) for the MTF BSG that you would like to have in the future?
I have many themes I desperately want to see:
1. Synths as the main instrument.
2. Tracks dealing with/referencing war (sound and/or lyrics).
3. 90's Hip-Hop music.
4. Story-telling music.
...
Less basic themes than Covers, Instrumentals, etc. Let's be a bit more original!

...
5. Disco music after the Death of Disco (post July '79)
6. Underground nightclubbing music
7. 2014 music

etc.

There are so many imaginable themes that could avoid lazy choices like "The Man Who Sold the World"s or "Thriller"s. The effort in research would be a lot bigger. And the listening for the contestants far more interesting and engaging.

Re: The MTF Best Song Game #4 | Theme: the 1970s songs

I actually decided pretty fast and already sent my song, as soon as I remembered of it. I had some pretty fabulous options, but the one I sent is just... Damn.

If it doesn't reach Top 5 at least, you guys have no clue.

Re: The MTF Best Song Game #4 | Theme: the 1970s songs

Broader topics (non-genre-restricted) are more fun.

Listening to 30 songs of the same genre might be a good basis to judge which song is better musically, but it would get tedious as fuck, especially if you are not a fan of that particular genre.

Talking about specific themes reminds me of this American Idol parody:

The best theme would be MTF covers using vocaroo.
