Brazil electricity problems may affect FIFA World Cup

Last night, in Rio de Janeiro, QF match between Bellucci and Ferrer was suspended for more than one hour due to power outage.

3 weeks ago similar events happened in Sao Paulo and Rio.

From Wall Street Journal:
“Various neighborhoods in the city Sao Paulo and about half a dozen towns in Sao Paulo state lost energy for close to an hour, according to power provider Eletropaulo, while 600,000 clients in and around the city of Rio de Janeiro had no electricity for more than two hours, that city's power company, called Light, said.

After the equipment failure, the power supply to some cities was automatically cut by several utilities around the country to prevent a bigger blackout.

The blackouts might revive concern that the country's power system won't be enough to cope with increased demand during the World Cup soccer tournament that will take place in June and July of this year.”

I do not see any problem. In Havana they just cut off power to as many neighbourhoods as necessary at any particular time. So Brazil can just cut off power to neighbourhoods without stadia.
