Have you got a beard?

Guys (and very brave girls indeed),

Who here has joined the ranks of Karl Marx, Siegmund Freud, Ernest Hemingway and just about every other important man in history and decided to express themselves in the most natural way; i.e. by growing a beard?

It does not matter if it is a thin chin strap or a bushy monstrosity that makes you look like a grizzly bear. All sizes and shapes of beard are welcome here. Furthermore, as the most epic episode of Dexter's Laboratory ever taught us, "it's the beard on the inside that counts".

At the moment I am sporting what the image above describes as a "close trimmed beard", but will probably gradually go for the "full on beard" if I figure out how to keep it manageable. What about you?

Let it grow, brother. You'll find it looks thicker with time.

It's odd to have a beard at my age During the summer I get lazy and let it grow, but it just gets rougher

I'm with the notion that beards make unattractive men less unattractive and make handsome men less handsome.

I am not a fan of facial hair.

Unless you are 12, it's not odd in the slightest. The clean shaven look has only somehow become the acceptable thing to aspire to in the last few decades. For no good reason, I might add.

Re: Have you got a beard?

I like a bit of stubble (especially if the guy looks young...and I'm dating him) but I'm not really a fan of a full-grown beard.

Re: Have you got a beard?

One big misconception recently has developed: having a beard makes you a real man.

WRONG.

Facial hair has no link with testosterone, and yes this is coming from someone who keeps a heavy stubble. I honestly laugh at guys who grow beards thinking that they're some masculine beasts. If you have to grow a beard to look masculine, the truth is you're already a low testosterone male.

Look at this guy:

Already you can tell he has a high testosterone male just by looking at his face not a speck on facial hair on his face. You can see he is a man by looking at his face. If this guy grew some facial hair, it'd enhance his masculinity more, sure, but it wouldn't make a big difference. He already looks intimidating as it is.

I recently had an acquaintance of mine who grew a little of bit of a stubble and he just doesn't shut up about it acting like he is now the most masculine guy in the world. I also recently overheard a guy say that he doesn't respect a man who can grow a beard but shaves [strong everything].

Major reason for this I reckon is because testosterone is declining in men big time, even compared to just 50 years ago I heard it's halved in young adult men now. Also the fact that masculinity is scrutinised everywhere in society and hence guys get the misconception that growing a beard makes you more masculine.

As for me, I keep a heavy stubble and shave the neck. I look better with short hair on top and heavy stubble so I've opted for that. It accentuates your jaw even more.

Will add that a full on beard makes you look more intimidating no doubt, but only if you have the typical high testosterone feature [small eyes, large brow bone]. I will grow my beard to full length and also did last year and damn people are indeed intimidated by you.

As notes earlier, if you have typical low T features [big eyes, shitty cheek bones] growing a beard won't do much for you but it still helps I guess.

Anyway, just do what you want. I just hate those idiots who grow one and now think they're the new Rambo.

If given the choice between being high testosterone and can't grow any facial hair and being low testosterone but can grow a very thick beard I'd pick the former all day long.

If Dworkin had had a kick-ass beard going (think Joseph Raz), he probably wouldn't be losing the positivism/natural law debate.

Hell yeah, son. It's your obligation to share your luscious mane with the world.

Kidding aside, it's a highly personal choice. 15 is definitely on the early side of things, but hey, it's a free country and if you feel good with it, you should go for it.

Re: Have you got a beard?

I do.
And when I have to shave, I feel like I'm virgin. And I hate myself afterwards and become Sweet_Cleopatra and think about fake suicide. But then it grows and I am happy again.
