All time great sports moment Saturday

I know many here don't follow college football but you just have to be a fan of sport to appreciate this. #4 Auburn vs #1 Alabama, bitter rivals in the state of Alabama. This was the iron Bowl to end all Iron Bowls and did it ever live up to the hype. How the game ended was the craziest ending to a sporting event I have ever seen. The clock had apparently run out but Alabama argued to put 1 second back on the clock at they did to try an attempt a game winning 56 yard field. What follows will go down in sport legend:

The Auburn radio call, makes it even more special.

The stakes in this game were so high. Alabama was going for their 3rd straight national title. But it all went up in flames here. What a way to end their reign.

great run

can you explain me the rule...i saw the clock ticking 0.00 but game wasnt stopped. Did they have to tackle him or ball to touch the ground in order to stop time?

Re: All time great sports moment Saturday

In football it's like a turn based strategy game so the clock only matters when they play starts. So there was 1 second left in this circumstance and you are able to finish the play once it begins.

The clock had actually run out on the previous play so everyone thought it was headed to overtime, but Alabama's coach Nick Saban argued to review and they actually but 1 second back on the clock to attempt this 56 yard field goal. A 56 yarder isn't so long for an NFL kicker but for a college kicker it's a long kick and considering the Alabama kicker had struggled all game and missed 3 field goals throughout the game.
The missed FG return is a very rare play in football because rarely do kicks come up short, kickers usually miss them left or right, so the rareness of the play adds to the craziness.

Don't watch College football (or any football), but that looked like a once in a lifetime run. Opposition looked stunned. Doubt I've seen that in any field sport.

That clock running out to 0:00 rule is used in rugby as well, but there all the opposition would have had to do was kick the ball out into touch and the game ends. Does it not work that way in football?

It's so much a turn-based strategy game, that final fantasy comes up in the similar vids..

Re: All time great sports moment Saturday

In order to stop that play Alabama would have had to tackle Chris Davis or he fall to the ground on his own then it would have been overtime, that would have stopped the play. Also if the kick had hit the FG bars in anyway the ball would have been unreturnable.

Amazing, I was watching this game too. Something like that happened 4 or 5 years ago in a Chargers @ Vikings game, with Antonio Cromartie returning the short FG for the TD with the clock expired. But that was before halftime. This one was better, cause won the game.

I have no idea what happened out there, but the way all these people reacted make me feel happy for them. As a sports fan I know that you remember the moments like that one forever
