I liked the ceremony. I was OK with the asterisk because it was funny  I really liked the teams parade this time (usually it's more boring somehow)!
The country presentation was impressive. They tried to make it not too long and it's not easy to squeeze in all the history of Russia They took positive approach and while they did not omit the tragic pages, they did make an emphasis on the greatness of Mother Russia. I loved it. Well done, Konstantin Ernst!
Don't know if anyone's aware, but Jana Pittman made the Australian team for bobsleigh. She's a former 400m Hurdles world champion, and competed in the 2004 Athens Olympics; finishing 5th.
She's the first Australian woman, second Australian to compete in both a summer and winter olympics.
I don't know how common it is, but I think she's around the 20th person to do it.
Kramer is just boss. Good to see him skate first, for a change, so we could find out what he was good for. Place him in the last pairing and he wins by his usual 1-2 seconds....
What a legend is this OEB , won title in sprint, second is Landertinger and third Soukup.
Last final is Moguls women starting in 2 hours.
Also we have ski jumping + luge qualifications
Amazing indeed. I remember watching him in the 1994 Olympics....he was not an elite athlete at the time, but it wasn't long after before he started winning. And now individual Olympic gold at 40! My main expectation for him was to take gold in the relay. Of course I hoped for an individual medal, but this....amazing, just amazing.
This was his 12th Olympic medal, a tied record for the Winter Olympics. Bjørn Dæhlie has more gold, though, 8 to 7. A relay gold would secure Bjørndalen a new record.
Very early days yet, no reason to conclude after day 1
I remember last time, the Canadian hosts were very disappointed after the first few days. Then things turned around for them and they won most gold medals of all in the end.
I hate Russian commentator Guberniev! He is evil! He WOULD NEVER STOP jinxing our biathlonists!!! Pompous self-admitring prick!
He jinxed Ustyugov first with constant admiring and repeating Zhenya was a leader at 1.8, then he moved to Shipulin! :fiery: I swear he almost started his famous scream (the one that I loathe!) the very second Anton shoot the final target AND!!! of course Shipulin missed! :banghead:
I enjoy the moguls actually, I just think the competition format is a bit flawed. Though I might rather go to jail than watch figure skating for more than about 5 minutes.
I was disappointed by the competition too. Soooo many mistakes. And I thought the winner's grades were way too high.
