Twin Peaks

I finished watching the series yesterday.

And... "Wow, Bob. Wow."
I don't know what to do of my life after that. Even the most recent outstading series ("Game of Thrones", "Breaking Bad", ...) seem tame now, even though they remain brilliant both objectively and subjectively.

Discuss the amazingness of it.
And if you don't know it, do yourself a favour, watch it as soon as possible!
Han Solo likes this.

Nooo way! Haha!

By the way, the girls in it have that "American old-school type" of beauty! The 3 "queens" + Joan Chen + Peggy Lipton were all gorgeous. I'm gay, but I can appreciate women's beauty too!

Not that it matters to me, in the appreciation of a series, but it added to the "texture" - well... all the vivid beauty, in other words.

And this series confirms my love for and the genius that is David Lynch (the co-creator) and makes me want to know more about Mark Frost.

David Lynch is a genius. Mulholland Drive is just pefection and Twin Peaks is just one of the best shows ever

I'd say all (or almost all) his filmography is a gift from the cinematic Gods. You just don't watch his movies only, you experience, you feel them!

And "Twin Peaks" is no exception, even if it's a series.
Let's just say that "TP" was groundbreaking for the time it was first aired (1990-91), and is universally recognized as the father of all modern series.

Great series!

Just a shame they never made a 3rd season.

Sherilyn Fenn was super charming in TP, I agree.

Great series even though many of the actors were average at best, but in the Lynchian world it works fine anyway.

They were asked to play as if they were in a soap opera I think (it's quite obvious, if you analyze their dialogues and their situations), it's one of the many aspects of Twin Peaks. There's supernatural horror, surrealism, soap opera, black humour, melodrama, ... It's actually impossible to classify the series, genre-wise.
And the actors portraying characters like Bob (which was not an actor to begin with - he's part of the many improvised situations of the series, I read), Andy Brennan, Lucy Moran, Josie Packard or Catherine Martell, and some others were chosen and given these roles for the needs of the series, to bring this melodramatic/soap-operatic/campy style.

Some like MacLachlan (as Dale Cooper) or Ray Wise (Leland Palmer) were absolutely outstanding, in a more academic way.

Indeed. So soooo many cliffhangers!

It's a real shame they were pushed to rush it, especially the revelation of who was the murderer. It didn't totally feel rushed, but it happened so suddenly you could suspect something was going wrong with the ratings.

By the way... It seems they filmed or edited the series previous weeks ONLY before airing them, so I'm a bit curious to know how it would work now. It seems they now sign contracts for how many seasons will be aired. So my question is: if Twin Peaks was made in the 2010's, could it be possible to rush/edit the series right before the showing? Don't they finish editing the episodes MONTHS BEFORE being released on TV?

Re: "Twin Peaks" (TV Series) - appreciation thread

Do people think the 2nd half of the 2nd season (after the revelation of who was Laura's murderer) was that bad? I think the last 4 episodes make up for all the filling that's been going from "Dispute between brothers" and "On the Wings of Love" (episodes 10-19 out of the 22 from the 2nd season.) Those 10 episodes drag a weeee bit, but it's ok. The rest (before and after) was thunderous enough and the circumstances were not playing on Lynch's and Frost's sides, so one can forgive them.

I would't say bad, but not the same level certainly.

And it's coming out in HD (bluray) very soon . Can't wait. My DVD set is almost worn out.

A seminal and revolutionary show. Mimicked many times since it came out. Lynch is a genius.

Are you seriiiooouuuuus? Yaaasssss!

(I always download a series before buying it, especially if it's an oldie, and of which I have never seen any episode) I thought about buying the physical copy in DVD format, I had no idea there was a blu-ray version being prepared (with the movie, which I haven't seen yet; would be a perfect occasion!), so thank you for the information!

EDIT:

Indeed: informations about the release here.

As stated in the article, about the rumoured date of release:
Quote:
03/25/2014 would be a brilliant release date for the Twin Peaks Blu-ray since, at least according to my calculations, that’s exactly 25 years after Laura Palmer tells Dale Cooper she’ll see him again in 25 years. And what a great opportunity for a newly filmed epilogue starring Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee in The Black Lodge, right?

About the content speculations and facts:

Facts: 1080p, of course.
Speculations: 45 min. of the deleted scenes from the movie, 14-minute documentary shot in 2012, ...

I cannot wait!
