Re: Turkey blocked access to twitter and facebook

twitter and facebook are not blocked. However many young people -a lot of them women- were arrested in their homes for posting messages that include phone numbers for doctors, meeting locations, photo evidence of police brutality.

Re: Turkey blocked access to twitter and facebook

Guess this all puts a dent into the EU-entry hopes of some Turkish politicians. CNN Turkey showing penguins while CNN International shows the riots? Really?

I just don't understand why people are rioting? It gives a terrible impression of Turkey and there are far worse countries - Turkey was a stable and liberal country. People could live to regret it.

All the very best for 2013 to:

Aga; Ana; Maria; Vika. Come on Caroline, prove everyone wrong!

Andy, Novak. Have a wonderful 2013!!

its because the square is the symbol of the secular revolution that symbolizes something to the Turks and Erdogan wanted to build a shopping center instead!!!

if let say my Gov will say we want to build a shopping center when rabin was murder they will get hell.

dont touch symbols, sometimes its the only thing that left esp if u do it without asking the ppl

Yeah Turkey is a democracy, have elected government, also member of NATO and G-20, candidate for European Union..etc. Everything is ok about that. I love my country, one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.

It is much bigger problem than the mall. Erdogan must respect people who didn't vote for his party. There is a big segment of Turkey increasingly frustrated with his authoritarian tendencies. He tells people how many kids they should have, what to drink, he controls basicly commercials.. Erdogan is a control freak. He likes to control things. He is doing everything to please his conservative base.

Well, Turkey is a sweet country, but we have problems too.

Bus-fare protests in Brazil tend to increase.

Thanks Turkey for the inspiration.

Re: Turkey blocked access to twitter and facebook

for the record: this is the closing ceremony of the WTA Champs in Istanbul 2012. you might get some idea about what some of the turkish tennis fans think of the government. it was live on eurosport.

Re: Turkey blocked access to twitter and facebook

From 1:23 the Minister for Family and Social Politics is basically cutting a heel promo

At least I now know to say "And that's the bottom line, because Fatma Şahin said so!" in Turkish.
