Think about this. Could be hundreds injured in a town of just 2,500.

It's just coincidence but pretty eerie that this happened just a few days from the 20th anniversary of the Waco standoff in 93

But it did not happen on exactly the tenth anniversary of Waco. Eerie indeed.

the story thus far

Not much known yet. Apparently a 3 mile radius has been set up around the explosion site.
Have you not learned that people dying in explosions in the U.S. should not get attention unless the death toll reaches certain (undetermined) levels?

About as suspicious as an explosion at Mt. St. Helen I would say.
Was it a plant or a facility where fertilizer was stored and sold? I've read conflicting things. I know all the headlines say "plant."

The entire West, Texas Fire Department. I think it's a volunteer organization as it is in most small towns including my town.

Many of these fallen.

60 people are still unaccounted for and 12 are confirmed dead.

This small town -- 27 or 28 hundred, but the outlying areas contain more -- has been hard hit.

Before and after of the plant area. Across the street is a school. You have to drag the middle bar across the image to have a complete picture..

It really does not make sense to me that a fertilizer plant/distribtion center this close to school and nursing home and apartment buildings.

Nor to me. Although someone cautioned me yesterday that sometimes a town grows around a workplace, instead of a workplace being constructed in a town.

That could be. On the map West Fertilizer is on the edge of town. The schools near it look newer. I don't know. One guy said he grew up playing on the playground next to the fertilizer tanks.
