Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

OK. We'll remember it next time Chile suffers another earthquake.

Re: Ugandan Parliament To Legalize Persecution of Homosexuals.

Another instance of these evil western countries preventing a young country to develop itself.

I feel ashamed to be a westerner, always interfering whenever a good democratic bloodshed is about to burst, always sending money to poor countries in this so neo-colonial fashion...

[end sarcasm].

If western countries didn't do anything, Abraxas would say we're hypocrite and don't help those countries when they need them.

Yes, because every sane Westerner knows that giving money to corrupt African leaders is a great way to improve their countries. The USA financed Egyptian dictatorship for decades until Egyptians decided to to overthrown their American-backed dictator for themselves. Hooray for the American aid!

Get off your high horse and see reality for a change. Foreign government aid NEVER comes with no strings attached. It mostly serves the interests of those who control things.

Actually, if western countries didn't meddle in the affairs of the third world, the third world would be a MUCH better place than it is now.

Yet your governments always mess things up and then some deluded Europeans like you come with a Messianic let-me-save-you attitude without even realizing how stupid they sound to those you're trying to help.

Actually, it would be virtually impossible to explain the rise of Mugabe himself without talking about western colonialism in Africa. The whole base of Mugabe's rethoric is based on white colonialism in his country.

Although Abrafail can spout a lot of crap most of the time, he is not wrong IMV in stating his position as it is. Whether countries can govern themselves and achieve any sort of democracy is another question but theoretically he has a point.

This just means that Uganda is run by its own people unlike other places in the world where things are run by a minority or a certain minority and this same minority likes to stick their noses into others business always.

Are you saying that this just means that the majority of Ugandans have primitive, ignorant opinions on sexual behaviour?

Re: Ugandan Parliament To Legalize Persecution of Homosexuals.

This thread is sort of humorous, but I think maybe both sides are under estimating the role westerners and specifically U.S. Evangelical Christians are playing in this unfolding tragedy. I've been follwing developments in Uganda for about a year now and although western governments aren't involved, western religion most definitely is.

Here is a recent story

Re: Ugandan Parliament To Legalize Persecution of Homosexuals.

State run religion has always ended up being a bad deal for the common person. I thought that Christendom had outgrown many centuries ago, what is now a major blight on Islam, but it looks like we need not look further than to the beacon of “freedom and conscience,” namely the USA, to see that the horrors of the past are still very much with us. It’s ironic that while these fanatical and extremist yokels enjoy constitutional freedoms at home, they want to deny them to people abroad.

Let every person live their life according to their own conscience. Banning parades because of public lewdness is one thing, but to imprison and murder people because of their lifestyle is just insane. Heartbreaking stuff. The capacity for human stupidity and evil is boundless.
