Re: Terrible sports injuries

Andrei Chesnokov one of the worst ever tennis injuries against Todd Woodbridge. He broke the tibia and fibula in his lower leg and dislocated the ankle. Bone went through as well.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

This was a near death injury. Very near.

This video is a little nauseating, 11 people in the crowd apparently fainted and 3 players vomited

Paradorn Srichaphan
Kei Nishikori, Donald Young, Somdev Devvarman, Dustin Brown, Steve Johnson, Yannick Maden
Robert Farah, Clement Reix, Alexander Dolgopolov, Nathan Thompson

Yeah that was bad. I remember reading that the goalie started leaving the ice because he was sure was going to die and didn't want his mother to see (who was watching the game). Also heard that he happened to be on the side where the paramedics were and this made a crucial difference.

After Nadal beat Monfils at Doha, before AO 2014

Only Del Potro can take him out before the semis, and he won't. Nadal is winning the AO, bet your house on it.

Re: Terrible sports injuries

WTF
I've never heard of this gruesome Ice Hockey accident before.
What amazes me the most is the quick reaction of his trainer. I've read the following on wikipedia:
"Malarchuk's life was saved by the team's trainer, Jim Pizzutelli, a former Army medic who had served in Vietnam. He reached into Malarchuk's neck and pinched off the bleeding, not letting go until doctors arrived to begin suturing the wound. Still, Malarchuk came within minutes of becoming only the third fatality to result from an on-ice injury in NHL history after Howie Morenz (1937) and Bill Masterton (1968). It was estimated that if the skate had hit 1/8 inch (3 mm) higher on Malarchuk's carotid, he would have been dead within two minutes. It took doctors a total of 300 stitches to close the wound.[7][8] It was also said that had the incident occurred at the other end of the ice, Malarchuk would have died - the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium had the locker room exits at one end of the ice instead of the location behind the benches, and he was at that end."

Injuries on ice are so dangerous. I remember a female ice skater who was slashed in the face by her partner's skate during a competition.

Re: Terrible sports injuries

The leg break that ended the career of Luc Nilis springs to mind. Luc was one of my favorite football players. Horrible to see him having to end his career like that.

Look at the shape of that leg in this picture.
