Re: **** Coins ****

In continuation of the last few posts by Litotes about coins that are not round,

The Indian Rs.2 coin is 11 sided(although it looks almost round). Production of this was stopped about 5-6 years ago, but many of them are still found in circulation.

Several older(late 1960s to early 1990s) Indian coins were not round.
In order: 1paise(1p)-square/diamond, 2p-sine wave on a circle, 3p-hexagonal, 5p-square/diamond, 10p-sine wave on a circle(looks almost octagonal from behind), 20p-hexagonal

CHIIE? Must be CHILE written with a lowercase L. Strange idea. Probably a typo by those making the coin dies.

Anyway, the 50 pesos has 10 sides.

"This is Uganda's rarest circulation coin,as they were withdrawn from circulation shortly after being put into circulation.Perhaps,it is due to being the same size, shape,& composition as the British & Irish 50 Pence coins, given the fact that Uganda's coins were struck at the Royal Mint. This is an extremely rare example of a numismatic item that was in circulation under the notorious regime of Idi Amin (1971-79),as very few coins were struck under his regime."

In some time we will know the true market value of these interesting coins. It will depend on how many of them are available, but they will always be interesting.

In ex Yugoslavia there was a coin, 25 para 1983, but the date looked much as "7983" and they withdrew it, however they didn't melt it and there are many available, but you can always get 1-5$ for them. I sell for 1-2 euro piece when I have them

i think they made about a million of those CHIIE coins so they're not really rare. You can buy them online at about 15-20 times the true money's worth. i have about 7 or 8... I'd probably had a lot more if I had cared to look for them during 2009 and even 2010. Now it's pretty rare to find one in actual circulation although i did get one last year.

a million is not that many when it comes to error coins, the above ex-yu coin was minted in tens of millions I think. If the CHIIE coins are now 15-20 times their nominal value, it's good. Such things always remain interesting and the value rises in time, although they will never be rarity. I googled a little bit and consulted some catalogs, it seems that there is 2009 CHIIE version which is quite rare, try to get hold of that if you can.

Here' another error on a ex-yu banknote, they were never rare, but the prices went up gradually. It was a mistake in the date on some of the banknotes of this type, not all of them, but still, at the time they were issued you could find many of them before they were withrawn.

Re: **** Coins ****

This is a nice coin, I think Minted in the Austrian city of Gurk, a bishopric with minting rights.

The dark spot at the bottom is shade from my camera...I am not a very good photographer...
