Re: THE Country Celebration Thread

Monaco must be the place to attract most top tennis players not born there. Case in point, recent DC winner Stepanek's official address is in Monte Carlo

That's because I think there's no taxes there? Many top players "reside" in Monaco

You are right, of course. And Monaco is not exclusive for tennis players. Lots of other top athletes from various sports have an official address there.

Some top bridge players went one step further and changed nationality. Monaco recently won the European Bridge Championship with two ex-Norwegians, to ex-Italians, an ex-Frenchman and an ex-Swiss on the team.

I will try to post here when the celebrations for a country start, if not, maybe Freak3yman will. You can switch to Monaco now, until the day ends. Back to your Israel after that, and when I post about Lebanon, switch to that. This is all about the good parts in each country, so, despite the recent history in the area, I'm sure there are good things to say about Lebanon. We had Palestine last week, I was afraid of a dispute growing here in this thread, but nothing happened. Let's stay on Monaco for now though.

I am just making the intros and letting others who want to join in talk about the countries being celebrated. Litotes contributed with something about Monaco. If we are to talk about Monaco, I'd be surprised if anyone would have anything bad to say about the place.

Re: THE Country Celebration Thread

Monaco

Monaco was founded in 1215 a colony of Genoa. It was ruled by the House of Grimaldi since 1297, when Francois Grimaldi (François Grimaldi) seized the fortress protecting the famous rock wearing as a Franciscan monk.

Monaco's economy is based on the Monte Carlo casino, services and small industry.

Many movies were filmed in Monte Carlo, the world's wealthy ppl live in the small principality
Monte Carlo is also known for a love story between the beautiful Grace Kelly & Rainier III.

Monaco is the private playground of the Grimaldi family. Existence of a family ensures the existence of the Principality. Contract with France in 1918 explicitly states that Grimaldi family will perish, Monaco would become an autonomous French region

Principality of Monaco reserves the eternal nature without any natural resources and serves as an example of development and modernization. No unemployment, poverty line is a concept that exists only in other countries, and life here are a combination of business and entertainment.
