Pretty sure in countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Cameroon and Gabon (to name a few), French is the the most spoken language. And that makes quite some more millions of people.

What Gagsquet said is true. In those countries, and in others, French is a lingua franca
, but far, far from being the most spoken language.
Although I don't know what Gagsquet means when he says "Frnch is the most spoken secondary language in the world". Surely English is the most widely spoken second language.
