74 millions only include France, Belgium, Canada and Switzerland.

France
Canada
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Madagascar
Cameroon
Cote D'Ivoire
Burkina Faso
Niger
Senegal
Mali
Rwanda
Belgium
Guinea
Chad
Haiti
Burundi
Benin
Switzerland
Togo
Central African Republic
Republic of the Congo

Only the countries in bold have a significant amount of French speakers. In the rest, French might be an official language but there are either few or no native speakers of French.

I'm not making the number up though. All serious studies I could find give figures in that range.

Nationalencyklopedin

74 million

Ethnologue

68 million

Unesco

81 million

Re: If you ever visit Barcelona...

Total number of native and secondary speakers of top languages.
1. Mandarin Chinese (1.12 billion)
2. English (480 million)
3. Spanish (320 million)
4. Russian (285 million)
5. French (270 million)
6. Hindi/Urdu (250 million)
7. Portuguese (248 million)
8. Arabic (221 million)
9. Bengali (185 million)
10. Japanese (133 million)
11. Punjabi (130 million)
12. German (100 million)

I was not talking about native speakers only. And I was wrong it's not 200 but 270.

Source?

Some of those figures are very strange (there are probably more than 100 million native speakers of German for instance, same with Spanish).

German has around 105/110 millions native speaker now.
The list is maybe not totally updated but it's a good outline.

Spanish and English gap is for sure slimer now I admit.

Pretty sure in countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Cameroon and Gabon (to name a few), French is the the most spoken language. And that makes quite some more millions of people.

Re: If you ever visit Barcelona...

In fact, in Senegal for instance, there is only a few native speakers (3-5%) but a lot of secondary speakers (almost 50%, mostly urban dweller). That's the same in a lot of countries.
That's why French has not that much native speakers but a lot of secondary speakers.
Actually, French is the most spoken secondary language in the world.

That is simply not true.

What Gagsquet said is true. In those countries, and in others, French is a lingua franca, but far, far from being the most spoken language.

Although I don't know what Gagsquet means when he says "Frnch is the most spoken secondary language in the world". Surely English is the most widely spoken second language.

In fact, French isn't the most spoken language that uses the letter ç (Portuguese holds that distinction).

Oh and as a native Catalan speaker, I'm saddened by the way the original language of Barcelona is belittled by the OP. Barcelona, ara i sempre catalana!

Belittled how? Are you suggesting Catalan is not a minority language?
I'm catalan of long origin and catalan is my native language, so don't sell me that crap. I'm not nationalist though. I hate all kind of nationalisms, whether it's Catalan, Spanish or Serbian.

By not publishing your magazine in Catalan. Although I could understand logistic and strategic reasons for your not doing so.

Well it's quite obvious right? Most readers in Catalonia read in Spanish. Press in Catalan only survives because of government's grant. Nowadays not even that.
Plus this magazine is aimed at visitors, who obviously don't speak Catalan.

Do you know why Time Out Barcelona exists? because the Catalan government gave them 600.000 euros each year just to publish in Catalan. But ask any newstand manager and they will tell you no one buys it.
