Neil Armstrong is dead

The first man to set foot on the moon passed away today aged 82.

Sad news. He will always be remembered. More fondly than another Armstrong who is also hitting the news these days.

"Is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" As much as you can disagree with some of the reasons for the space race and nationalism etc. Those words ring true as space exploration go forward.

Re: Neil Armstrong is dead

It's a bad week to be an Armstrong.
They should be sending his ashes to the moon.

RIP to possibly the most famous man of the 20th century. Tribute from NASA:

20 days into the Mars mission this happens. NASA must be experiencing an emotional roller-coaster atm.

Re: Neil Armstrong is dead

Definitely RIP..

Although comically with all these Lance Armstrong news headlines going on, each time I've read the news about Neil Armstrong being dead, my brain first registers it as "Armstrong being dead" and then I quickly associate Armstrong with Lance, so for a split second I keep thinking Lance died while thinking to myself, "damn he must have taken a shit load of PEDs for sure then"

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber

Re: Neil Armstrong is dead

RIP. Legend. Too bad he didn't live long enough to see manned missions to Mars and beyond. It all started with that small step though. 10000 years from now when the galaxy is teeming with human colonies in this quadrant of the galaxy, his and his team's achievements (and by extension humans in the 20th and 21st centuries) will still be talked about as a brave and fundamental step in what will transpire in the next few millenia...Amazing stuff

A legend and an inspiration to thousands of people, myself included. May he rest in peace.

Re: Neil Armstrong is dead

RIP Legend. 82 years of age, not that bad to blow out the candle.
Pretty sure Mr. Amstrong had a great life!

Am I still alive? I'm still f*cking ... Here...!"

Re: Neil Armstrong is dead

Big man. Very big. RIP.

Just imagine the sight and the thought and the courage required for that unique endeavour. You are being prepared (no matter how glorified, still a guinea pig) to be the first to step on a brand new terrain. Your eyes only see darkness from within the space suit on this new ground. You are gazillion miles from home, and feel the loneliness more than ever. And you trained everyday for this success. Just how it feels to come so far. People read about you in the papers next day, but you aren't there. You are far, far away. And even when you return home, people still think of you as someone far, far away. So strange. So surreal. Life.

...like that Elton John song.

“When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.”

― Frédéric Bastiat
