All,

The 2012 games are finally upon us.

Opening Ceremony is on July 27th and Closing Ceremony on August 12th.

Who is going? Anyone working there?

So many rivalries and individual challenges will be settled at this event. Looking forwards to more track and pool World records.

How much do I need to pay to get entry as a volunteer? Specifically at the tennis courts.
Is that what you meant? You can't pay to be a volunteer.

And a simple Google search reveals that volunteers were selected in September 2010. You seem to be a teeny bit late.

Champions vs Challengers, who are you rooting for?

Champions. I hope Bolt can beat the world record again. And this time no joking, if he can't, he's an idiot because he could have made a time of 9,4 in 2008.
You can count on the following -

Bolt will win
Bolt will set a new record
Bolt will show-boat in doing so

He always wants us to be hoping for even more from him. It maintains the mystery. I think he's an eejit, you never know when you could get injured. He could set a record thats half a second slower than what he's capable - then get a career ending injury. In 10 years or so someone else comes along and eclipses him.

He should go for broke now, set a time for the ages.

any Brits here know how the tennis coverage will go?

i noticed 20 odd new bbc channels being prepared for us here (somewhere up in the 800's) hoping they devote a channel to tennis :D

I'm at Old Trafford Thursday. Can't wait to be a part of something special.
Why are the football venues so far from the olympic city itself?

I can't really see the logic, especially since there were probably more than enough stadiums within London itself (Wembley, Twickenham, Stamford Bridge, Emirates, White Hart Lane, Boleyn Ground...).

Voula Papachristou, the Greek triple jumper was sent home from the 2012 Summer Olympics after posting a racist message on her twitter page:
With so many Africans in Greece… the West Nile mosquitoes will at least eat homemade food!!!.

I've travelled back to the UK from México for this event and cannot wait. I'm lucky enough to have tickets for the México-South Korea football match in Newcastle today, women's indoor volleyball on Saturday, men's field hockey on Monday and Brazil-New Zealand football on Wednesday. Should be great.

I don't think México can beat the likes of Uruguay, Spain or Brazil (although they have owned Brazil at many age levels over the past 10-15 years), to win the gold medal. However hopefully they can make it out of their group. A hypothetical QF against Uruguay or GB would be quite exciting.

They played very well in their warm-up friendly against Spain at Cádiz, but were terrible against Japan at Nottingham. Party boy Dos Santos probably won't start today.

Fun evening. Two decent games. The best side were the side who lost I thought- UAE! Played some fine footy and missed a hatful of chances. GB-Senegal wasn't as lively, but Senegal deserved the draw.

One moment I thought was sweet was when Senegal equalised and a Senegalese guy a couple of rows in front of me raised his little boy aloft to smiles from the home support. It epitomised the spirit of the Games and what they stand for. :)

Only one photo, got a vid to upload during the Uruguayan anthem (which some Manc tossers booed Suarez when he appeared on the big screen).

Seen a Canadian flag at Old Trafford today, I did wonder if it was you!
