Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)

The games encompasses not only sporting prowess, but a bringing together of cultures from all over the world, with the host showcasing their own cultural contribution.

After two weeks of solid sport, who wants to see some naff theatre version of sport when you can have music and something creative.

Queen at the end? OK. More like some concert than a ceremony. Not that I dont like it...

Care to expand. I just don't get what you expect. This is the closing ceremony. Not a sports event.

Again, exporting the culture and showing oneself to the world is fine. But this is the olympics, it's about sport, about athletes from all the countries in the world. It's seems the olympics itself has been only superficially explored... one would think these two ceremonies have been financed by the British Ministry of Tourism of something.
Well it's just how it is. In 2016 there will be a carnival of Brazilian festivities and I'm going to love every minute of it.

Yes, but does it encompass only the host showcasing their own cultural contribution? Because that's pretty much all we've had.

And why does a naff theatre version of sport have to be the only alternative?

What else could we have then?

I wonder if they can make it different enough from the Fifa WC ceremonies.

In terms of performances, very disappointed with Brazil. This is not how many medals the future host should win. They should be a pouring a lot more money into training athletes.

Different animal completely. The USA just have the better mentality when it comes to match-play events.

It is the closing ceremony of a sporting event. Not Britain's Top 100 hits night.

I've said what I had to say about this issue. You guys don't see it that way, fine. It's been a great olympics, I think it's been very well organised and I've enjoyed every discipline. Well done London!

How about some sort of recap of the past three weeks? Using the music they've used today for instance, the music's great after all.
