Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I do, badly

Average Forehand, awful back hand

I try and serve volley, my volley is good, my serve erratic, 2nd serve awful.

Good fitness, but my movement falls to pieces

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

Good Thread!

I play tennis from the age of 7, so that's about 11years now (8years of competition).
I play 3 times a week during the off season. From April to September I play a lot of tournaments which makes I am basically on court 6 days a week during July-August.

So my game:

My biggest strength is my fighting spirit (not mentality overall cause I can choke also), I never give up, helped by good stamina, which has resulted in many great comebacks.
I got a decent serve, a nasty lefty slice serve on the ad court and my second serve I mostly kick it high. Backhand (two-handed) is my best groundstroke, my forehand is very up and down, shaky sometimes, but then I just stick to spinning it cross court. Net game is average, smashes are hilariously bad.
I am quite fast,, so I can track a lot of balls down, but my footwork and movement (especially forwards) are plain bad.

I can play good dropshots, and I only slice in case of emergency, it doesn't really trouble anyone.

I am also too injury prone, but I loooove playing matches so I do it as much as possible

Oh, and I have a serious anger problem on court

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I play tennis only veeery occasionally (few times in a summer), as most of my friends don't play tennis, at least more than occasionally.

Anyway, I'm not the fittest guy. So keeping the points short is important for me. But the problem is that I lack the weapons to keep the points short. So I end up pushing and moonballing... until the opponent hits a short ball forcing me long inside baseline. Then I try to hit an agressive shot and finish that point on net. Obviously my volleying isn't too bad for as bad player as me, so I sometimes try to S&V, I just don't have enogh powerful serve.

I used to have two-handed backhand. I sometimes tried one-handed BH, but it was terrible. Then, I once played with a heavier racquet. My forehand improved a lot, and I started using that racquet from then. Then I once again tried one-handed BH, its motion just feels more natural for me. And with that heavier racquet, I had no problems with 1H BH. And I've had 1H BH since then.

I don't know which surface is better for me, fast or slow? Fast court would allow me to keep points short more easily. On the other hand, slow court suits better for a weaponless pusher, but points end up being longer. So, maybe fast court would be better if I had more poverful shots.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I played only recreational tennis (few times during the summers) few years back, don't anymore (don't know why).

Compared to other recreational players (ones like me, not the ones that play twice a week or more) I had a good power FH (I ballbashed anytime I could), had no regular BH (I couldn't hit it to save my life), but average to good slice BH, amazing dropshots and shit volley game. My serve and my movement sucked (though I was fast runner, I could pick up slices and dropshots almost every time), but I was the fittest of my friends (whom I played with). Now I'm completely out of form though. My return was average. Also, I often (like once or twice a set) used underhand serves

By laying out your tennis CV, you'd be able to make a valid claim for a proper, acknowledged pundit (by reasonable posters). Of course, you can still be very well acquainted with the game and totally disregard this thread but I hope you don't and it can become a success.

Finally, the thread is not only limited to just tennis history intros but also about analysis and sharing some opinions on how to play the game for the tennis noobs of this world.

I'll start off. I don't play tennis at all. The only time I played was when I was 5 on some clay courts but I do not remember much about it except I had to jump to hit a ball.

I then rediscovered tennis when I played a video game and actually learned the scoring system of the game. It may sound stupid but once I knew the rules I really wanted to watch and have been following properly ever since. I play quite a lot of table tennis when I have the time but I am not sure if that helps me with tennis itself (pretty sure they are not that similar at all).

The floor is yours ladies/gentlemen.
What an ironic question. Why would someone who doesn't play tennis would be interested in spending any significant time posting in a tennis forum.

I don't play tennis - not enough money and time for that. I still love the sport .

I guess that makes sense. BTW, I just noticed something called "credits" below my forum name. When I click on it, it says something about bank accounts and such. What is that all about?

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I started playing tennis at 6.

I think I am talented. I once considered getting a professional player license and trying out in some futures qualifying. Maybe I still will, just for fun.

My forehand has strange technique, but I can hit it pretty hard. My backhand is very smooth and flat. My first serve and second serve are very similar and I serve up to 90 mph. My volleying skills are pretty good- I can hit great reflex volleys but mess up on the easy ones. I'm fairly fast, and I like to slide kind of like Djokovic.

Sometimes I just hit random shots and don't run. I don't have much discipline on court (but I don't get angry or anything). I am really consistent when I want to be consistent, however I always go for my shots. Sometimes I enter streaks where every shot I hit close to the line goes in.

Yeah, I'm a high level tennis player. I could probably beat some WTA journeywomen pushers.

How old are you? I think someone or other had on their signature a quote saying you were 12. Just asking

If you get a good rep from someone the forum gives you 10 dolars, so be nice to everyone .

My game is awesome, I play at Saturdays

Serve - I hit at least a DF every service game, I can hit 4 in a row easily.

Forehand- Not bad, I can hit very hard, but allways UE

Backhand- I can use one handed and two handed backhands, both are pretty weak but they aren't that bad in rallies

Overhead- My best shot, Much better than Djokovic's

Volleys- I did one once, it was amazing

Mental - Very tough, I never choke. Don't having the opportunity to must help too.

Movement- Great, I'm very fit, I could go on a push fest and win if I had the patience and the talent to.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

My forehand is all over the place these days, can go from being very lethal from many feet behind the baseline, to very tame in the forecourt.

My backhand just continues to go from strength to strength, I can hit with so much power and control it very well. I'm hitting some delicious winners these days.

Serving stronger than ever.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

Have played on and off since I was a wee one. Played all four years in high school.

Decent forehand. Poor backhand (lack of practice, I suppose). Wonky serve. Mental midget. And I prefer the baseline.

It's virtual money you earn by making posts which you can use in virtual betting in the forum. The vbookie option on the top right.

Re: The "Who plays tennis?" thread

I have played for a total of 6 years and had natural talent in the sport. I first picked up a racket at 14 and got taught by my soon to be high school coach. He said I had some talent in the sport and could do well if I kept it up.

I started in highschool on Junior varsity 4 doubles and ended up at 3 singles my senior year .

My Senior Year is what my game is today.

Forehand: Pretty damn consistent, have good topspin and control with it. Though I can make it flat and hard if need be. Of course I can get a little wild with my FH, making it go long. Overall best stroke.
BackHand: Very consistent and solid. Love hitting monster backhands crosscourt or down the line.
Slice: Barely use only to play a drop shot. Sometimes if I'm goofing around, I do mega slice and make the ball go spinning off the court XD.
Drop shot: Love drop shots, forcing my opponents at net!
Volley: Not my best part of my game. HighSchool coach had me work on this when I moved up to singles. Still struggle with it when doing singles. In doubles I do very well and hit great volleys.
Overhead:Is ok, not the best
Serve: Meh, always been one of my weakpoints. My first serve has some pace and can be solid, but if I miss, I hit a terrible second serve.
Speed: I can get to balls people don't expect me to.
Stamina: Very solid, I have a lot of energy.
Footwork: I'm definitely not a statue.

Overall I would rate myself at a 3.5 on the tennis scale. Solid enough, going to try out for the tennis team next year.

Also keep the posts coming interesting to hear all the DESK GOATS posting about their games
