Do you open doors for others in public?

The thread title is self-explanatory. Like, if you're at the store, at the mall, a restaurant, do you open the door for people behind you and allow them to pass, or do you just go right in.

And if someone is opening the door for you, do you make sure to say thank you, or are you sort of in your own world and not cognizant of what that individual did for you? Discuss.

Yeah, if someone is walking right behind me then I'll do it. Also if I see that a person is having difficulties, like having to carry a lot of stuff or something.

If there's a big crowd coming after me, then I probably don't do it since then I'd have to keep it open for a lot of people for too long

After Nadal beat Monfils at Doha, before AO 2014

Only Del Potro can take him out before the semis, and he won't. Nadal is winning the AO, bet your house on it.

Yes, Nat, I am

But I am legitimately curious to see if other people do this, since I instinctively do it whenever I feel someone behind me in public. It's a place we've all been in at one point in our lives.

Re: Do you open doors for others in public?

Of course, I say thank you when someone opens the door for me. I’m not that graceless. I may keep the door open for those behind me even though I walk through first or I may let them pass first. It just depends on how the door opens and how I and others are positioned, for instance, if I am going in and they are coming out.

I think this is pretty normal behavior everywhere in the U.S. that I’ve been.

Re: Do you open doors for others in public?

Yes to both questions

Though sometimes I get annoyed by the "help". Like when I'm walking my bike and about to enter the building, and someone holds the door open for me by leaning on it with their back, making the doorway narrower. Like two people and an adult bicycle are supposed to fit through there. And it's narrow so I have to worry about hitting the person's shin with my bike's pedal, or scratching my own shins with those pedals as I squeeze through the doorway. And all the while I'm trying not to roll my eyes and remembering to say "thank you" -- but I'm really thinking 'this would've been easier without you standing there'

Re: Do you open doors for others in public?

Well, most of the malls/some stores etc these days have automatic door so no need If someone is carrying something or having some difficulty as Lopez said, of course I'll hold it, otherwise not really, don't see the point. Or maybe that's just not the custom here

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”
