Also the refs setting a high level from the start just green-lights all kinds of dirty plays. To me it's very strange because international hockey usually sets a lower bar than in the league hockey. Time just runs away from you if there never is any interuptions and chance for powerplays. There were even many situations were the Czechs just blatantly took a guy down and got a breakaway/2-1 opportunity as a result. Feels horrible but maybe the fact that the crowd wanted penalties worked against both Sweden and Finland at times because the refs don't want to seem like they are favoring the home-teams

Still doesn't take anything away from the Czechs. They were smart all through the tournament. Avoided the always-called type of penalties and played solid defense.

Agree 100% on the refereeing issue.

Only Del Potro can take him out before the semis, and he won't. Nadal is winning the AO, bet your house on it.

Re: Hockey thread

great to see a rebuilding SVK team seeing success again after some years of mediocrity... they and the czechs play the best brand of ice hockey imo...

Re: Hockey thread

Russia just too tough in this tournament. Slovakia tried to the end but ended up with the same result as us, 6-2 (even scored the first goal like us ).

Nevertheless this was a great result for Slovakia I think, not many expected a final showing for them.

Agreed, not the most spectacular but the most intelligent, today they missed 3 defenseman and it showed, 3 goals allowed on lost pucks in defensive zone.

A great tournament overall and it was very nice to see Chara wearing Demitra's jersey.

Re: Hockey thread

Russia was the best team by far in the tournament and it wasn't close.

10-0 in matches. 5-2 in QF, 6-2 in SF, 6-2 in the Final

Actually only team that scored more than 3 goals on Russia was Sweden, then fell apart and let in 7
Russia started a bit slow in many matches but so much offensive power. Unstoppable. Almost like old times when Soviet was steamrolling everyone.

Got to reload for 2013. Will be many teams hungry for revenge then. I will pray that Pittsburgh, Washington does better in NHL so that Malkin, Semin and Ovi can't come. And maybe NYR can miss playoffs so a certain goalkeeper can show up when Swe/Fin is hosting again

Re: Hockey thread

awesome! thats how you celebrate a silver. No one had them ending up at 2nd place anyway so.

I know Czech Republic is hosting WC in 2015 in Prague and Ostrava. Then many slovaks can come too. Will be crazy

But first another round in Swe/Fin and a stop in Belarus

Re: Hockey thread

yeah it will. It's gonna be awesome. In Sochi, Russia on big ice. That's gonna be good for Europe, not so much for Canada/US

here some awesome swedish hockeyfans. For some reason ppl care a lot more about the local teams than the national team. Next year I hope we can step up the mood in the stands (and cheaper tickets)

Re: Hockey thread

Yeah from what I've read the Stanley Cup playoffs have been interesting... Don't follow NHL that much, it would fuck up my sleep too much . And I think my GF would be pretty pissed if I picked yet another sport to follow . I follow the Finnish hockey league though, hope my team Jokerit from Helsinki does well next season . We had a great playoff win over the defending champions and favorites (and bitter local rivals) IFK Helsinki but couldn't back it up in the semifinals.

That's tough... last year we also lost to HIFK in the quarterfinals in the seventh game after leading 3-2 after 5 games... and having a 1 on 1 against their goalie in overtime in the sixth game

They went on to win the title last year after that quarterfinal matchup.
