Re: Hockey thread

yeah Pittsburgh screwed up big time. I expected a lot more from their big stars. In the first rounds they looked good. Dunno what the hell happened.

Now it doesn't feel that exciting. Chicago won in 2010 and Boston won in 2011. Yawn.

Re: Hockey thread

very exciting Game 1... makes up for the previous two series being so crappy.
I thought Boaton was the better team throughout the game so it's huge that Chicago pulled out the win.

The first team after Red Wings in 2008 who won as a Presidents Trophy holder.
This was only the 6th win for Blackhawks in 23 playoffs series against Bruins and only the 5th cup for Chicago (Rangers are the worst now from 'Original 6' with 4 Stanley Cups), 2nd in last 4 years.
This finish on June 24 is tied with 1995 (lockout too) as the latest one in SC history.
They are the most deserving Cup holders by far, consistent the whole season, they defeated last 2 champions in playoffs (and 3 of the last 4)...

Re: Hockey thread

Congrats to Chicago

Meanwhile, biggest news in Finnish hockey and sport in a while: My team Jokerit will be playing in the KHL (Russian league) after next season .

Don't know what to make of this, some awesome rivalries will be gone but on the other hand the players and hockey we'll see at our Arena will be superior to the Finnish league. Just doesn't feel right, though.

Only Del Potro can take him out before the semis, and he won't. Nadal is winning the AO, bet your house on it.

Re: Hockey thread

Bad news for the other Helsinki club, HIFK. They won't have the local matches against Jokerit. And possible bad news for other Finnish clubs, if KHL becomes more popular, Finnish league clubs' revenues may decrease.

Then what about Jokerit? Do fans care about foreign teams that are better than Finnish league teams? Or would fans rather watch matches against other Finnish teams? And can Jokerit become the whole Finland's KHL team? It's definitely harder to win the championship in KHL. Is it already too hard for a non-Russian team, all KHL finalists have been from Russia? And is it even financially better to play in KHL, sponsorship revenue should be higher in an international league but can it cover the increasing costs of running a KHL team.

I'm not too excited about this. I'm not a hardcore fan of hockey, I follow occasionally the Finnish league and NHL but have never paid attention to KHL, it's just much behind NHL in prestige. I want to see how my favourite teams do and who wins NHL or the Finnish title but I can't care less about who wins KHL. And I'm not a Jokerit fan, it would feel strange to cheer for them. I might cheer for Jokerit if they made the KHL finals unless they are playing some other non-Russian team without an oligarch behind.

Re: Hockey thread

amazing end for the Blackhawks. Everyone thinks a game 7 is coming then they swoop in and steal the cup in 17 seconds. Incredible stuff.

Wow, that's very interesting. I followed and rooted for Jokerit a bit the last couple years because of the Filppula brothers. Not sure what to think about this.

Also, on the subject of Finnish hockey, Sasha Barkov will in all likelihood be drafted in the top-5 of the NHL draft tomorrow.

Barkov should be a good player, can't wait to see him.

What important results?

Mainly those with Finnish interest . Wild losing their opener at home, Selänne playing at Winnipeg, Barkov scoring in the opening game, Jussi Jokinen getting a hat-trick etc.

I follow Finnish hockey more closely, Jokerit has been sucking this season so far.

Oh well, at least you get to see Teuvo Teräväinen I think, cause I saw that all he's played this year is some tournament, not sure if he's still with Chicago or what.

Speaking of Teuvo, he's playing in the Finnish team in the junior world champs. We just beat Canada 5-1 in the semis, final against tomorrow Sweden . Don't expect us to win, then again didn't expect us to win this either!
