Re: Kim Jong-Il is dead

I can only hope that the heir will work towards opening up the regime and improving the lot of his people.

I'm not hopeful though.

It's not been a good year for dictators and oppressive regimes but there's still far too many, and supposed democracies are increasingly showing authoritarian tendencies.

The heir is just a kid, difficult to imagine he will control or work towards anything.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Unfortunately so, indeed.
The way the so-called "Islamic Spring" revolution is developing in Egypt right now doesn't show too many signs of any improvement either at this very moment...

Poor, poor people having to live under this kind of 'rulers'.

That it is virtuous to be poor as long as you worship your particular god. I am not saying that belief allows a people to flourish, but it is the message of N. Korea and Christianity.

You are correct. He simply aspires to belong to that group.
