the replacements' appreciation thread

as you might know, the replacements were one of the finest yank bands ever.

here are some gems from their magnificient album let it be:

on the conventionality of men-woman relationships: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfHrIkftZzA

on unsatisfaction. simple as that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub75S...eature=related

on the fake-ness of the musical industry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA-L8...eature=related

Quote:
The Replacements' first major-label album, Tim, was scheduled to be produced by Westerberg's idol, Alex Chilton, but the sessions fell through; the album was produced by former Ramone Tommy Erdelyi. Upon its release in 1985, Tim garnered rave reviews that equalled those for Let It Be. Though the band was poised for a popular breakthrough, they were unsure about making the leap into the mainstream. As a result, they never let themselves live up to their full potential. The Replacements landed a spot on Saturday Night Live, but they were roaring drunk throughout their performances and Westerberg said "f*ck" on the air. Their concerts had became notorious for such drunken, sloppy behavior. Frequently, the band was barely able to stand up, let alone play, and when they did play, they often didn't finish their songs. The Replacements also refused to make accessible videos -- the video for "Bastards of Young" featured nothing but a stereo system, playing the song -- thereby cutting themselves off from the mass exposure MTV could have granted them.

Re: the replacements' appreciation thread

Hey, you decadent westerners, show some appreciation for one of the greatest bands of all time. After all, a band that was usually too drunk and sloppy to actually play, must be great, right?
Actually, their videos are not bad, but the music is like a ton of British 60's bands. For a band that was apparently best known for being too drunk to play, the videos are surprisingly mostly ''comfort music.''

I feel sorry for threads when the ''reply'' column shows "0"

And never having heard of them, I had no idea if the mods were being replaced, or whomever.

So yes, I checked a few videos, assuming a bunch of drunks would at least be attempting punk rock or something. But they were just ''nice.''

Re: the replacements' appreciation thread

assumptions can only get you so far, mate. but truth be told, i've never been much of a fan of most of the most hardcore punk bands.

that said, i know you're trying to bait me into a silly argument about the replacements' style after listening to 3 of their songs but there's no need. i know they're awesome and everyone with a respectable opinion on music knows that too
