Golf is like chess. Its not really a physical sport, its more mental.

So there nothing physical about driving a ball 350 yards down a fairway?

News to me.

Golf is really tough on the joints, my back doesn't let me play it.

But I still think its a hobby. I mean anything you can wear long trousers and dress/polo shirts, have a massive gut and/or chew gum and win majors past 40 years of age can't really be classified a sport.

Anyway, to the thread's point. No, it's not a sport. It's a game, like bowling or darts or chess or go or poker. Nothing bad with that.

Re: Is golf a sport?

ofc it's a sport and only one who's never held a driver in his hands could say it isn't

Do chess players spend hours on the practice board, developing the physical skill of moving a chess piece from one square to another?

Do golf players mentally decide to where they would like to move the ball, and then carry it there in one hand and set it down?

a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
It falls under the definiton of sport, and therefore it is a sport.

buddyholly example makes it clear that it is indeed a sport.
